PS3 gets a 160 GB HD
-
Jul 20, 2007 00:58
LINK 20GB? 60GB? 80GB? Who cares? Japanese numero uno peripheral maker Hori is releasing an external 160GB PLAYSTATION 3 hard disk drive this August. The HDD' s internal drive runs at 5400 rpm and connects via USB to the console. What' s more, the drive uses USB as its power supply. It' s out August 2nd for ¥29,190 (US $240). Kinda pricey, if you ask me. How many HD' s can one console have?

If it' s possible to use this drive externally through USB, why don' t they just release a patch and make PS3 compatible with any USB harddrive? What a rip.

You can use any external USB harddrive with PS3, I didn' t have any problems using 200GB Western Digital USB harddrive for my PS3. :-/ However I assume this is, an external drive wich you use instead of the internal. i.e. be used by PS3-games and similar, aswell as beeing easy to move around to other people. :) bit hard to figure out without the source.

Does the PS3 even have USB 2.0?

I' m almost positive, yeah. It' s an okay idea that will sell to the ignorant, but with internal 2.5' s so cheap, it' s not a worth-it investment.

Does the PS3 even have USB 2.0? It' s USB 2.0 wich makes you able to recharge acessories with power I think, so I assume it' s 2.0 or higher wich feeds my sixaxis with new power. :)

There' s no reason that I know of that USB 1.1 wouldn' t recharge your electronics. They both run 2 data wires, a 5v power line and a ground through that tiny little USB cable, there' s no real physical difference as far as I know.

the only differnece betewen usb 1 and 2 is the speed, not power. USB 1 is only 12 mb/s, usb 2 is around 200.
