I dont have a problem with my 8800 on vista, had problems on XP actually. And ATI is shit, they had their glory when nvidia ***ed up the geforce 5 series, but every other generation of cards nvidia has been great.

The NVidia drivers I used 3 years ago were way way better than the ATI ones I' m using now. Way more options and customization. They also work way way better with HDTVs.

ATI' s drivers suck ass for odd resolutions, nvidia has resolutions for anything you can possibly imagine, I had a 1366x768 monitor and ATIs drivers closest match to that was 1280x720, Nvidia drivers has the actual 1366x768 resolution.

Got a fix for anyone with the X1900 series and XP. Download the omega tweaked drivers from - http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php Install them including the ATITools. Then using the ATITools>Harware settings>Overclocking.... change the fan speed up to 100% when the temp goes up above 70 degrees. For no extra noise, you solve the gfx glitches as the temps hover around 70

I think it worked. I didn' t even have to put the fan on 100% because it seems they had better speeds for different temperatures. And when I did have it on 100% it made an awful lot of noise. Thanks!

Sweet, glad it worked Ginj. I think mine remained silent at 100% because its a modded AC one. Or I' ve got a noisy room to drown it out! I also heard the X1950XT stock fans are quieter. But yea seemed to be an instant improvement playing the COD4 demo. Gonna try it with Orange Box...
