Oblivion makes PS3 Launch

Yes, the rumors are true: Oblivion is heading to PlayStation 3, and an upcoming cover story in Official PlayStation Magazine has the exclusive first look. Here' s what we know so far. The game will introduce a new faction to the Oblivion world, one that' s available right at the beginning called Knights of the Nine and described by the developers as " the good Dark Brotherhood." The goal here is to become the Divine Crusader (think part warrior, part priest), and the quest features new locations, characters, armor and weapons. " Oblivion has these really good character archetypes for evil," says executive producer Todd Howard. " It has the Dark Brotherhood: You get your outfit, you feel like an assassin, you feel like an evil guy, [and] you role-play like an evil guy. We [didn' t] have the opposite end of that. There [was] very little reward for being a goody two-shoes." " As opposed to adding content that allowed your character to just experience new quests, we wanted to create something that allowed your character to become something new," he continues. Fans may also be excited to hear that the series is heading to PSP in Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion, a game that plays very similarly to its big brother but takes place in a completely different setting. For more information on both games, check out the cover story in the November issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, on store shelves soon. LINK We knew it was coming and it' ll be interesting to see what visual upgrades the attitional development time has made possible.

Yeah, I' ve known about this since before it came out. I also had the lead guys at Bethesda basically tell me out right that it was coming to the PS3... sadly I had to keep my lips sealed. Damn NDA agreements. I think it' s a good thing though. Bethesda needs the sales since they are actually loosing money on every copy of the PC version they sell (I was told this directly from a Bethesda employee). Everyone deserves to play this game. It' s incredible. The PS3 guys deserve to get their hands on it. I wonder how people will react to the next one. Wait... I' ve said too much.

I almost decided to care about this game today when I saw it used at a local game shop. But then I came to my senses and bought a few games for the Saturn, Genesis and DS instead.

Those Sony people will love it. Its simply the game that everyone has to play... Although, I' d miss the force-feedback from when I' m getting slapped by 3 enenimes at a time... In defense though...I could see them doing something cool for the lock picking.

I wont miss the rumble as rumble is a useless feature only homosexuals are fond of, like to violently thrust the controller up their ass when it vibrates apparently. Anyway, I am selling Oblivion for Xbox360 and Echanted Arms tommorow for sure. I hope the PS3 version will have better loading, the loading in open areas on the x360 version pissed me off.

Had it been the 360 which hadnt had rumble and the PS3 had had it, it would have been the best thing in the world now wouldnt it little Evil Man (said with a patronishing voice, like talking to a toddler, maybe a few pats on the head to make him feel a little proud)

For Some reason I still don' t feel like playing this game. Where did you get those Saturn and Genesis games from? If you don' t mind telling me.

I hope the PS3 version will have better loading, the loading in open areas on the x360 version pissed me off. PS3 uses a 2x BD drive, which is 72Mbits/second or 9MB/second. 360 uses a 12x DVD drive, which gives it about 16MB/second. The complication comes when you look at the differences between CAV (360) and CLV (PS3) drives. 360' s 12x CAV is 12x for around 15% of the outer disc, and thats peak performance. The closer to the inner ring it gets the slower accesses get (5x on the inner ring) with a probable average of around 8x speed. While that' s still faster than PS3' s 2x Blu-Ray drive, 360' s 12x DVD drive only reads dual layer discs at a maximum of 8x, and that again is peak performance. In comparison, PS3' s 2x Blu-Ray drive reading a single layer Blu-Ray disc fares pretty well, it falls just short. 360' s drive is marginally faster and both consoles can use the HDD as a buffer, but PS3' s memory and bandwidth bottlenecks may prove troublesome, especially when rendering a completely new scene.

Well, the day OB came out,for PC/xbox360,there was a lot of people who had some " bad ass" pc' s and still had frame drop problems, with for ex dual sli 7800 gts 256mb,basically two RSX. So i think they optimized the game a lot better now for ps3...or atleast they should do.

Oblivion when it first came out needed another 6 months of Optimization, it was [is] slow and buggy. Hopefully with the ps3 version, updated code will result in better fps and less bugs. I am sure they arent sitting on their hands. Those crazy guys.

Still,ps3 is getting a awesome epic RPG,and this might actually make some sony fanboys finally admit its a awesome game instead of attacking it over some boards.

The port to PS3 will have been an absolute bitch. The differences in the architecture are huge and the PC/360 code (which is very similar) will have been extremely exotic to Sony' s machine. I don' t doubt the team one bit but i wouldn' t get my hopes up for PS3 having the definitive version of the game and i would almost certainly expect it to require patching as issues crop up.

Silentbomber its not a suprise that some people like you get bored by Oblivion, name me one game that hasn' t sold millions and got insane good score by the critics and still has had people at forums saying they get bored by those games? We have diffrent taste, the gaming media+me and millions of others just really dig OB for what it is. I for ex like medival time, and " fantasy" i also wanted a open ended world where i could play around and build what cjaracter i wanted to become and do. And Ob let me do that,so it fit into my creteria, the sound/graphic is also so amazing that i cant say anything else then that it deserves 94/100 from me.

Its a cool game like, I would give it a 7/10. But the whole world feels, dull and boring. Maybe its the whole Western rpg thing I dont much like. Thought Neverwinter Nights in parts was better.

Hmmm... Well it might feel slow, but its more like," come and explore" then delivering something like linear Japanese rpgs, here they invite you to their world but you make your own play time. While Japanes egames handle that for you,but it may be things you don' t find funny at all. Btw,have you joined right guild yet?
