Well first of all, that' s a computer resolution, not an HD resolution. The lowest HDTV resolution available is 1280x720. Most people only look at the " 720" part and think that " 768" simply MUST be better. These people are idiots and don' t look at the " 1280" part. A resolution of 1024x768 can only put a pathetic 786,432 pixels on screen at any given time whereas 1280x720 (720p) can put a glorious 921,600 on screen at once. Quite a difference. Plus 1024x768 is a pathetic and wimpy 4:3 aspect. 1280x720 is widescreen. Everyone hates 4:3. Everyone loves 16:9. To have 16:9 at the 768 resolution, you' d need 1330 horizontal pixels or something like that, not 1024. But even then, that' s not an official HDTV resolution despite many crappy LCD TVs having that res.

1280x1024 is a must if not 720p.

Is that even a real resolution? That' s even narrower than 4:3.

768 is better for computers and for 1080i/1080p content... which is what most content is.

Most TV HD channels are 1080i so they get downsized anyways, down to 1360x768 is better than 1280x720, HD movies are 1080p so they would get downsized the same way too, and PC games usually don' t have 1280x720 options they are mostly 1360x768, so they are deffinetely better for PCs.

The only thing 720p is better at is for pure 720p content, or if the TV can' t actually accept a 1080p signal and you' re forced to use 720p, my TV takes 1080p it just resizes it to 768.

Yeah, that' s why I said " or something like that" . I usually don' t pay much attention to those oddball resolutions. I sure hope that VC-1 broadcasting is in the future for HDTV instead of just ATSC which uses MPEG2. The 19mbps bandwidth of ATSC is just too low for HDTV running in MPEG2. And many stations have SDTV subchannels for no reason other than to eat up all the bandwidth and make the HDTV channel look worse. Cable and satellite compress the signal even more because they suck. I want everything to be 1080p 60fps. Get rid of 1080i, get rid of 720p. Movies can run at 24fps 1080p, that' s fine. But all of these other obnoxious oddball resolutions do not benefit humanity in any way.

Picture quality of broadcast HDTV vs. HD DVD or Bluray is pure ass, I hate TNT the most, I was watching some movies off TNT and the pixelation is ridiculous.

1080i is irritating, but I can stand 720p.
