I' m talking about the games that when you first played them you instantly fell in love with them. The games you
thought you would be holding onto for a very long time. Myself, I have a fairly decent list of X-Box games that I once cherished, but have long since gotten rid of.
[1] Morrowind - Don' t get me wrong, it' s a great game, no doubt. But after you reach a certain level it' s kinda like, " what' s the point?" Nothing could challenge me. With just a bound crossbow, I wiped out an entire mages guild in less than a minute. And the main quest - blah. I tried that for a couple days but it bored me to tears. Morrowind was great, there just simply was no challenge.
[2] Blinx - Loved the character. Loved the game. Loved the time control. But no replay value at all. I was under the impression that once you got a perfect score on a level, you' d unlock something. But that wasn' t the case. And aside from a handful of prizes, the catmedals were fun to collect, but didn' t have too much pay off.
[3] Shenmue 2 - I absolutely love the Shenmue series, but I was short on dough and S2 wasn' t doing too much at the time so I figured I' d trade it in, buy it back later. Now that I hear that Shenmue 3 may include the whole saga right there, there may not even be a point to buying S2 again.
[4] Sega GT 2002 - This is really the only sim series I' ve ever loved. There' s just something about the controls in the game and the physics that just seem so right. The series never had the difficulty/depth of Gran Turismo, but the game physics and, more importantly, game
fun always seemed to be so much better. But I' m not that good at racing games, and I can only reach a certain point before I have to tap out.
[5] Crazy Taxi 3 - Meh. Much like the first, it was fun for a while but eventually it started to wear down on me. I may still pick it up later, but I' m in no rush.
[6] Turok - Okay, I never loved this game. But lets just say it' s a choice I still regret. Brought on day one. Returned on day two.
[7] Brute Force - I' ll admit, I definitely got my money worth. For about a month and a half I was in love with this game. I went through it once on normal then immediately turned around and beat the game again on Brutal. But it' s just the small little things that are getting on my nerve now. Like yesterday, I' m playing on Hunting for Shadoon, and I tell Hawk to walk across the bridge. I don' t know why, but she decides to walk into the lava, and I' m at the end of the freakin' level! Or I was using Hawk' s sniper rifle to help take out some fire hounds. I had Tex about 8 feet away to help lay down some cover fire, and Brutus I was using to draw them out. I give both Hawk and Tex orders to stay there, and when I get back, what do I see?! Tex has moved
in front of Hawk and is actually blocking her shot. I' m thinking to myself, " I left Tex on the other side of the screen. WTF is he doing over there?" Needless to say, without Hawk shooting from a distance, the fire hound walked right up and killed her with one blast. So it' s stuff like that and enemies have eyes in the back of their heads that bother me. I haven' t traded in the game yet, but I will soon.
[8] Splinter Cell - The game was great, but the stealth aspect was too much about trail and error. And once you knew the error, there wasn' t much else to the game. Every time I tried to replay a level I would just do the exact same thing over and over again no matter what difficulty level the game was on. It wasn' t the type of game that
forced you to get better. Once you mastered it, you mastered it.
Aside from Turok, I still have all my old saves on my hard drive, so if I ever wanted to I could buy these games again and pick up where I left off. But I don' t think I will any time soon. Perhaps near the end of the X-Box life I will, but I' m only going to hold on to my core collection of games at the moment.
So what games did you once love but have gotten rid of?
