New -BIG ASS- Halo 2 Trailer - Jul 16, 2004 17:05
By BIG ASS, I mean the big screen. New trailers for Halo 2 will appear around the US at 1500 Loew Cineplex Entertainment theatres. This will start today and carry out into august.

Video blown up to film always looks bad, plus you have no choice but to view it at 24 frames per second. Commercials at movie theaters is bad, bad, bad! Color me unimpressed.

I' m not at all skeptical, just very knowlegdable in the subject. I used to work in that field for over 10 years.

An 8 minute IMAX trailer would cost about $15,000 just to print. And if they wanted to print a copy for more than just 1 theater, (say 200 IMAX theaters) then the cost goes up to $15,000 x 200. That doesn' t factor in the cost of making the ad and distrubuting it... just printing it. If you ever see an ad on an IMAX screen, you are probably looking at a crappy video projetor. You are certainly NOT looking at IMAX film. It is hard enough to keep IMAX prints small enough to fit on the platter as it is. Movies like Harry Potter have to changeover between 2 platters in the middle of the show. And Harry Potter is a DMR blowup of a 35mm print anyway... not exactly full IMAX quality.
