Bizarre question I know. I mean why would anyone buy a game in a genre that they hate? But some of us weirdos end up doing that anyways ;) Even though I hate RPGs, the only RPGs I' ve ever liked was the Ys series and I' m definitely getting Ys 6 for the PSP and PS2 when it first comes out. On the flipside I bought Gran Turismo 4: Prologue the week it was released even though I hate the series and knew I was going to hate part 4. But since Prologue was cheap I took the plunge, hoping that the gameplay was improved enough -to my liking- over previous versions, unfortunately that wasn' t the case. Played the game the day it arrived on my doorsteps and never touched it again nor do I ever plan to, lol.. But even that small bit of stupidity is nothing compared to the stupidity of me purchasing Sega Rally 2 and Zombie Revenge for the Dreamcast especially after playing the arcade versions and absolutely HATING them. I know at that time the Japanese Dreamcast still had a small library of games and I was scooping up every Sega release, but Damn! With Prologue I had no real idea of how it would play compared to its predecessors, but with Zombie Revenge and Sega Rally, I knew.

GT 4 is completely different than GT 3. I played the demo the other day; EVERYTHING feels different. You' re on crack. As for me, I' d have to say maybe Dead or Alive 3. I hate fighters, but I liked playing with friends, so I decided to pick it up when it became a Greatest Hit. I played it for a day or two...haven' t touched it since. LOL I' m also seriously considering purchasing Ace Combat 5 and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal when they' re released, and flight and platform games I like even less than fighters. LOL A story of success would be Prince of Persia. It sounded too " platformy" to me, and while it was, it was also AMAZING. The puzzles blended so beautifully with the platform and fighting elements that I didn' t care in the least which genre it fell under. Much looking forward to PoP 2! :)

Cars were way too damm slippery when trying to make turns. I hated that about GT 3 and I hated it even more in GT 4: Prologue :p Well at least I *tried* to give GT4 a chance and bought Prologue. It didn' t appeal to me at all and I know to say away from the full version no matter what! lol

Yeah, we can all tell you' re an arcade gamer. Ever get in a regular car and try to take a simple 45-degree turn at 80 m.p.h.? Guess what buddy, you' re sliding, and even more so if it' s a rear-wheel drive. Once I' d played Prologue for ten minutes, I wasn' t sliding much anymore, and the turns were starting to tighten up. Pretty soon, I had the tracks down pat. It' s exactly the process I' d go through if I was really in the car. I know you arcade players. Tried to take the turn at top speed like Daytona USA and ended up in the wall. C' mon, admit it.

Ever get in a regular car and try to take a simple 45-degree turn at 80 m.p.h.? But that' s the difference, lol. In an actual car I have gone 80 miles per hour and higher and the turns - depending on how wet or dry the road was - always felt easier. Even the most simplest turns in GT 4 were a pain and even when flooring it in GT 4 my cars didn' t feel as if they were going past 15-20 miles per hour. That' s another gripe I' ve always had about the series. The sense of speed sucks big time! I thought GT 4 was stuck on school zone speed by default.. When I first played Prologue I selected that Mini Van. Damm thing crawled all through the track. I' ve played other racing sims that handled speed better and the way they handled turns just felt a bit better. I like R: Racing Evolution and Auto Modellista much better, their sense of speed is faster and turns can be negotiated better. If real cars handled the same way the ones in GT 4 handled, I' d stop driving Like FOREVER, lol.. While I am an arcade racing fan not all of them handle that well neither.. Sega' s SUPER GT for example is a game quite popular among hardcore gamers - some even consider it the great arcade racer of all time - but one that I hate thanks to the slippery handling. While the car doesn' t slide around as bad at Gran Turismo' s cars, it' s still bad enough to turn me away.

Oh wait, I just thought of a real one. Moto GP for the X-Box Was never into bike games but decided to pick it up after all the good news I kept hearing about it. It was fun but eventually I traded it in.

I also can' t get into the simulated racing genre after buying the first gran turismo game. It may be time for me to give it another try however...I am long overdo. I can see where Terry is coming from in that I don' t find it fun sliding around a track and spinning out all the time in a racing game either. I' ve just always had more fun with arcade racers.

I usually have to explain this to people, in regards to the speed in GT: You' re in a minivan. It probably takes you 8 seconds to even get to 60 m.p.h. You' re on a race track that is designed to hold vehicles traveling up to 200 m.p.h. They' re long, wide, and not exactly the roads we drive on when we go out to the grocery store. Go out on a NASCAR track and go 60...you' ll feel like you' re barely moving. When racing on tracks that have to be able to handle insane amounts of speed, and you' re in a vehicle that isn' t even capable of getting over 100 m.p.h., of course it' s going to feel like you' re crawling. Furthermore, in regards to the " sliding;" I realized that when you said it, I didn' t slide at all once I realized that the brake coupled with steering, is what' s causing the sliding (of course). Try playing again without hitting the brake on every turn. Just drive slowly and smoothly. You won' t slide at all. Also, don' t mistake tire squeals for sliding...sliding means your car actually moves sideways across the track (obviously). According to physics, even the best-handling cars in the world can' t handle even slight turns at 80 m.p.h. plus without sliding a LITTLE. And you' re not exactly driving racecars. Those things suck. It' s too bad you can' t drive something normal in Prologue; you' d instantly see that the physics change entirely to fit the vehicle.

Try playing again without hitting the brake on every turn. Just drive slowly and smoothly. You won' t slide at all. Also, don' t mistake tire squeals for sliding...sliding means your car actually moves sideways across the track (obviously). But that' s the thing. I almost ' Never' use brakes in racing games. I always rely on letting up on the acceleration to help ease me into turns. I didn' t enter the turns at full speed, I released the acceleration and still slid into a wall. Even after my vehicle stopped and then I pressed the acceleration button to get it going again, it still couldn' t grip the road properly even though it wasn' t anywhere near its top speed. I' ve had this problem with several cars in the game which is why I couldn' t be bothered with the game after investing over an hour into the game, trying to find something redeemable about it. As much as I dislike the Sega Rally series and the ping pong-like nature of their cars constantly slamming into walls I can understand that one of the reasons it happens is because the cars are being driven on dirt roads, muddy roads and even snowy roads where it' s harder to maintain control of vehicles, there are very few solid pavements in the game. Gran Turismo on the other hand doesn' t have that excuse to save it. Most of the roads are solid and I just can' t seem to keep the cars heading in a steady direction. Even in straight-a-ways, I' ll tap the left or right direction ever so slightly and the tires start screeching and the car feels like it' s ready to spin out of control... The SEGA GT series is JUST AS BAD in my opinion. I was so disappointed when I first heard that Sega was going to try and compete against Gran Turismo with a driving-sim of their own... I say STICK WITH WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO THE DANCE Sega! You' re the king of arcade racers, just maintain your firm grip on that throne and leave the driving-sim stuff to other companies! In keeping with the sliding issues of Gran Turismo 4: Prologue, take another driving sim like R: Racing Evolution for instance. While speeding through the courses, if I release the acceleration button before hitting a turn, a lot of times I can cruise into the turn and avoid hitting the wall. That' s not always the case as some cars handle better than others but with a great car, I can have somewhat of a good time. Gran Turismo 4: Prologue on the other hand, even with some of the best cars selected, traveling at medium speed and de-accelerating before entering a turn, WHAM, right into a wall I went. Kind of like the way Namco' s Moto GP motorcycles handle. ARGH!!! But when it' s all said and done, despite totally hating the game at least I gave it a chance to disappoint me instead of just automatically writing it off without having tried it.. I know quite a few people who, without even playing a game or watching a movie automatically claim that those games/movies suck. When Gran Turismo 5 is released on the PS3 I' ll rent it just to give it a chance. Unless Polyphony Digital imports some Sega or Namco people into the project I doubt I' ll enjoy the handling of the cars but I' ll still give it a chance to disappoint or surprise me nonetheless..

All Gran Turdismo games suck. It' s a fact. God (or whoever you believe in) just called and told me it sucks. Plus, if I am saying it sucks, what more evidence do you need? Why does it suck? Because it doesn' t go real crazy insane fast with little to no downtime! If you have a tiny bit of rust on one of the screws that' s holding your glove box together, you' ll lose the race! You need to spend hours and hours trying to troubleshoot the problem that' s causing you to lose the race. It' ll be forever before you find that damn screw! If the CD in your car' s CD player is slightly off balance due to an off-center label, you' ll slip and slide all over the place! You' d better spend several hours in the garage making sure that CD is OK. I like action and excitement. Things that explode are also nice. I also like things that obey my will via the control pad, not things that feel like I am racing on a Slip ' n Slideâ„¢. I don' t care if that' s how it would work in real life. Games aren' t real life! Games are there to distract us from our pathetic, lonely, and horrible existences (that' s why I play, anyway). Gran Turdismo only reminds me that I have more car payments due in real life, and that I need to buy new tires, and that I need to do all I can to adjust my real slip differential on my real car. Oy! Shoot me! :)

Terry: That' s the way vehicles operate. I didn' t have a problem with Prologue, and wasn' t " slamming into walls" for very long before I realized that you have to learn how to DRIVE. Furthermore, Prologue never gives you the option to upgrade your cars to the point of effectiveness. You' re just racing with barebones cars, and you' d never do that (in real life or in the full version). I had little trouble with it myself. Joe: So, in short, you like mindless games. That' s fine, I like them too. But there are times when I get sick of the 220 m.p.h. car sticking to the road on a 60-degree turn when it should be catapulting over the guard rail. Different strokes.

I never been a fan of RPGs. But, once I played Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and saw that RPGs can be more then just turn-based, random unseen battles. Im still nto into turn based, but I do enjoy certain RPGs now.

But there are times when I get sick of the 220 m.p.h. car 220 MPH? Way too slow! The cars in good games go from 0 to 550 in 1 second and only have one button -- gas!

In regards to the Gran Turismo discussion, to me it seems like one of those games that you' ll either love or despise. I fall into the former, personally, but I can see where people would not like it in the least. And getting back on topic, I will probably pick up Destroy All Humans in spite of the fact that I never really liked the whole GTA model of gaming.

I hate extreme sports games like Blitz, but I bought NFL Street and was actually fairly pleased with it.
