Half Life 2 confirmed for PS3/360 - Jul 14, 2006 09:48

While speaking at Electronic Arts' annual summer press event, Valve Software' s Gabe Newell announced that Half-Life 2 will definitely arrive for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Better yet, the ports, which are scheduled to ship simultaneously with Half-Life 2: Episode Two for the PC, will include official Half-Life 2 content available at that point, including Episode Two.

While Newell didn' t announce every bit of what will be on the disc, the PS3 and X360 versions of Half-Life 2 will include adjunct titles like Half-Life 2: Episode One and the just-reconfirmed Team Fortress 2. Counter-Strike: Source is also a possibility.

Guess who' s coming to dinner? ...Well, no one from this place, at least.

Half-Life 2: Episode One and Episode Two are the first chapters of a planned trio of episodic add-ons to the original Half-Life 2, extending the game' s story.

Of particular interest is a new feature Valve is calling " Portal," which entails players using a special gun to create gateways similar to those used in Prey. A player could create a portal nearby, for instance, and then make a second portal on the other side of a chasm; walking through the first would transport him safely out the second.

Valve wasn' t clear on just where the portal gun will be used, though it looks to be part of the arsenal in Episode Two -- and certainly a good candidate for multiplayer.

Stay tuned for more details on how Half-Life 2 will arrive for next-gen consoles as soon as news comes in.

UPDATE: Electronic Arts has clarified that Counter-Strike: Source is not yet confirmed for the PS3 and X360 versions of Half-Life 2.

FU*KING AWESOME!!!

Looks like Valve want to set the record straight after the awful Half Life 2 port on Xbox.

So to clarify we get:

Half Life 2
Ep1
Ep 2
Team Fortress 2

...and possibly Counter Strike: Source.

I expect the 360 and PS3 versions will look like Lost Coast and make full use of the HDR.

Lost Coast was purdy...

...and so i can' t wait!

What i did notice is that there was no mention of Half Life 2 Deathmatch which while most didn' t like it, i did. I enjoyed using the gravity gun to throw explosive barrels into peoples faces. Shame about the almost constant lag though...

Although in my view, Half Life 2 is not the game everyone makes it out to be, it' s still a great game, so this is really good news and it should look far better on my 360 or PS3 than what it does on my computer.

I agree with you. I own HL2, played it and really didn' t see what was so " ZOMG" about it. It was a good solid play experience but nothing amazing. Most of the time playing it seemed like Valve was saying " Hey lookie we got cool physics!" .

While it had some framerate issues (that were rare and that didn' t affect gameplay mostly) it was a great port - if you look at xbox specs, this game was very well ported.

It was a shoddy port, just like Doom 3. Ofcourse when you look at the minimum system requirements for the PC versions of the games and then at Xbox' s, it' s amazing they got them running as good as they looked at playable speeds, but both games were too demanding for the console and should have been kept for next gen consoles.

Now i need S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Crysis confirming for next gen consoles!

Let us pray together!

And I agree with Doom 3 as well as Half Life 2 being too demanding for any of the previous gen consoles, but from what I' ve seen I was pretty impressed by how well Half Life 2 actually worked on the X-Box. Also, I too didn' t get the OMG feeling from the game, but I wont deny the fact that Half Life 2 was still one pretty darn well made gaming experience and I am still impressed by its physics and it' s one of the things I really want to see more of in this future gen.

Now I' m sure you haven' t played those ports.Doom 3 for Xbox was fixed (some things were changed after PC gamers feedback) and it was the best version in overall (not visually). It was awesome with steady framerate ,DD 5.1 and great graphics.

Half Life 2 - was very good, but had framerate problems that got really serious at the end of the game (the ending cut-scene itself actually)

I' ll go through HL2 on PS3 or X360 for some high end details , but Doom3 was perfect for Xbox.

HDR dosent mean shit to me or a game..

I want these to run constant 60fps.. thats most important.. No shoddy aiming/turning crap that i see in most 360 FPS.. and hopefully no Framerate drops when abit of AI and action goes onsreen which totally put me of COD2' s single player game.

Great news Tho.. As Hl2 surely is one of the greatest single player FPS out. actually it IS the greatest Single player FPS.

Excellent!

Nice value for money, but not really worth it if you allready own the game.

Only thing holding this back is the blasted console pads, we need a Wireless Mouse + Keyboard set up!

Unfortunately for now it' s got a strange control scheme that hardly rivals mouse and keyboard.

The only thing that makes it worth checking today is solving puzzles using the nunchack as your hand (like opening doors on the trailers)

Thankfully, days of Samus loosing all her equipment in the beginning, are gone :)
