That' s how it sounds when tires slide in real life... Thanks for the clips but I saw them all a few weeks ago. I can' t wait for this game. Look what I found: Another new track... and it has snow.

I thought GT games were good but they were always missing something. Crash damage I would have liked the games so much more if when you crashed you would have to shell out some cash to fix up the car rather than running full speed into a wall and just come to a dead stop with nothing

Raven: It' s possible that this issue has something to do with licensing. Sony/Polyphony paid a LOT of money to get all the official licenses for most every make of car in the world. Some of these deals may have stipulations that their cars can' t be smashed or mutilated in any way. It sounds strange, but I' ve heard of it happening, and given the sheer number of manufacturers featured in the game, it only takes one of them to say " no car damage" , and that' s that. You can' t very well have a couple of cars being invincible while everyone else is getting torn apart in that hairpin turn at Laguna Seca. On a side note, I' ve never really minded this too much. There' s so many other things going on in terms of options and upgrades that fixing your car might be a little too overwhelming. Or, it could be a little boring. See, it' s just a lot of body work to fix a smashed car, and if it' s too smashed, you just have to buy another one. Body work on a car isn' t exactly fun in a game; UPGRADING your car, on the other hand... Fixing your car would require nothing from the player except to hit a button and see your car get fixed, like the cheesy car wash function. See what I mean?

What fathoms just said is true but that' s not the only reason why there' s no damage. Kazunori Yamauchi (the creator of the series) said several times that it is something that he would like to include in the series. He says if they where to make the addition it would have to be completly realistic, not just in the way the cars look when they take damage but also in the way they perform afterwords. Add that to what fathoms said and you can see why they don' t have damage in the Gran Turismo series.

I can' t think of any racing game where crashing into a wall actualy affected the car, like most games the car can get damaged, but it doesn' t affect how the car functions, just dents and stuff. Is there any series where crashing actually affects functionability?

Yes, there are a few, but they' re hardly realistic. CART Fury was one horrendous racing game where slamming into a wall could have mechanical consequences...unfortunately, the game was so ridiculously unrealistic, this feature didn' t amount to much of anything. I think I may was going the exact same speed on busted tires. LOL

Pretty much all of Cademasters racing games have damage that affects your cars performance.

Rallisport has car damage that will change how the car handles. Rallisport 2 takes it much further when you turn the difficulty way up. They said it will behave exactly like a real car would if it takes damage. The cars also take damage pretty easily in the higher difficulties. Flying through turns at 80mph might be good in some games but in Rallisport 2 it' ll cause your car to flip and pretty much fall apart. A torn apart car won' t get you anywhere.

It adds an extra element to gameplay, and can be fun. On the other hand one wrong move that clips your bumper and makes it drag slowing your car down can cost you a race. GT4 is so detailed in every aspect that not having damage just gives you one less thing to worry about. GT4 will rock with or without damage.

It' s just all the red tape that Sony/Polyphony faces. I guess there' s no way around it when you' re dealing with kind of license load. We also need to remember that while Rally racing is just another part of Gran Turismo, it' s the only thing you do in Rallisport. It wouldn' t be as much of a problem to put car damage in a specific racer like that...and now that I think of it, I remember crashing the snot out of my car in Rallisport. LOL That game was pretty fun.

The Daytona USA games had crash damage as well. In Daytona USA 2 You could really total your car and it would react that way. Affecting your performance through the race, cars that you had an easy time blowing by with blast past you cause your car is shaking and going a bit too slow. I don' t even like any of the Gran Turismo games so I won' t say how adding crash damage would make the game(s) more appealing but for Racing/driving games in general I would love for them to have crash damage, it adds a nice element to the gameplay. I' ve often times thought how much it sucked that I could plow into a wall at 2 zillion miles and hour, flip over 20 times and my car would still be in perfect, glossy condition.

You know my arcade lovin arse a bit too well!! LOL I' m just not into racing games where you spend 3 years tuning your car up in a virtual garage before it' s truly ready to hit the tracks. I bought GT4: Prologue since it was so cheap but found nothing enjoyable about it.

I was a big fan of the first polyphony titles from Motortoon GP onwards and the first 2 GT games really showed a push forward what could be included within a driving product. GT3 arrived and certainly didn' t disappoint in the looks department but lacked in the size of the overall package. It had many parts but nothing felt complete, in particular the GT cars only had 3 realistic courses with others containing ridiculous jumps that just wouldn' t work in real motor sport. In many cases ToCA 2 has raised the bar yet again, including many features (damage, 12 player online, 21 cars in a race and official licenses) already lacking in GT4, the driving sensation has been taken that step further and with a fantastic selection of courses (it doesn’t matter if you have a selection of 500 cars if there only 3 courses that are appropriate) its taken the anticipation factor down. Has GT4 moved forward or is just the same as the others but with better graphics?

Thats wwhy I am skeptical about getting this game, if its just another GT then its not exactly worth it. I hope theres something revolutionary to it, I hear theres online play and other online components, I don' t know much more other than that

Toast: Ummm...I don' t remember any " jumps" on the courses in GT 3, except for the rally courses. Furthermore, it' s a RACING game. I' m not sure what else people want to do with it, besides crash damage. GT 3 added a few more courses, got rid of the worthless lists of used cars, instituted new cars, more upgrades, a bigger variety of races, license tests, and there were pit-stops. On top of it all, the racing physics were completely revamped, as stated by the Polyphony crew. I played GT 2 in its entirety, and after playing GT 3 in its entirety, I can' t imagine what ELSE people wanted. EVERYTHING was enhanced, from the ground up. Anybody who says that GT 3 was just GT 2 with better graphics is, I' m sorry to say, naive. In how many other ways can you change a racing game? What else can possibly be added, besides car damage, to enhance or change the game? There will be more tracks, more cars (if that' s possible), and more upgrades in GT 4 from what I hear...what MORE could you possibly ask for in a racing sequel? Have there beein other racing franchises that I' m not aware of that change their entire foundations from installment to installment? It' s a racing game, not an RPG. You race cars...there' s not THAT many variations of it. :)
