Demonoroth
The Condemned series ain't bad either and Valkyria Chronicles made by their Overworks studio is easily one of the best games of well by now last year.

Agreed. Quite a surprising and refreshing title. Also, Yu Suzuki.

I'm quite fond of Naughty Dog. They've come a long way and I believe their most realized game to date is Uncharted. I can't wait for the sequel.

Other than that I can't really thinking of one development team that has consistently released great games, but I can think great game designers that have:
- Shinji Mikami
- Shigesato Itoi
- Katsuya Eguchi
- Toshiro Tsuchida

I also think there are promising developers that have yet to release any games, such as:
Platinum Games Inc. I think this one is self explanatory.
Armature Studios. A new small studio run by some ex-key members of Retro Studios. They have a very interesting business model.

The only "glitch" that is really that exploitable are the people with modded controllers to shoot the semiautomatic weapons super fast.  I've seen them in several games but I haven't actually been killed by one before.

Of all time nintendo & Square/Enix, they haven't made much good recently but the best games I have ever played were made by them.

As of recently, I would say Bioware & Blizzard.

When the best you can say for a developer is "it wasnt bad", maybe its time to get the fanboy dick out of the mouth and realize SEGA is garbage. 1-2 games a year that arent complete ass wont change that.

How many does Kojima Productions/Konami release per year that are extremely great? Just to give one example. This goes for most other developers for that matter.

@ Eddie : about the FPS progression. Of course graphics have changed and there's more things like physics now. But I think that the point here was that many games/genres still have the same basic mechanics as they did in the beginning because they work. And if a "certain company" wants to change the input method/way of controlling, people don't like it either ;)

For me personally then, some teams that I like :
Sega in general for Yakuza these days. Konami for MGS and Silent Hill, Capcom for a few things too. Ico Team, Grasshopper, Rockstar. Although I must say that I don't really see any of them as a clear favorite. But these are a few that stand out a bit for me.

I agree with this. I would say Square is more guilty than Nintendo though. Nintendo's last batch of games don't break the mold of what they've done before with their series (Zelda TP and SSBB as perfect examples) but are still pretty awesome. Square on the other hand, other than their handheld games (TWEWY and FFVIICC were superb) their recent console output leaves much to be desired.

Favorite developers not limited to just this generation: Sega, Capcom, Konami and Namco...

Favorite developers of the current generation of gaming: Capcom and Konami. I hate to say it but Sega just hasn't been 'Bringing It' as much as they should this generation. There's still plenty of time for that to change, but I NEED another Sega game to wipe the bad taste that Golden Axe left in my mouth a couple weeks ago. Valkyria Chronicles might just be the ticket.

I wish Yu Suzuki would get off of his friggin a$$ and do a proper Space Harrier sequel. Sega also needs to do a sequel to Super Hang-On and port most of their Model 3 & Model 3 step 2 games to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. They could include 4 or 5 games in each volume.

Also, retire Sonic for a while and bring back Alex Kidd. So much can be done with the Kidd whereas Sonic needs to go away for a little while.

There must be many Sega fanboys then in Japan since they'll release this limited edition bundle :

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.ps3fanboy.com/media/2009/01/ps3ceramyaku3.jpg

And both games reached Playstation Platinum status quite fast so it can't be that unpopular. At least in one area. As of now Yakuza 3 looks to be one of the most interesting games coming up for me personally. And graphically I find it more impressive than almost everything else out there (judging from the 20 minute trailer).

Part of the reason is because Sega of America thinks NO Advertising equals a WIN!
Famitsu and a lot of Japanese gamers on the other hand, love them some Yakuza.

But Japan is irrelevant. Last-Gen proved that. Hell, this gen is proving it, even Japanese devs know it. They make their games and try to sell them in the US and Europe, which are much larger markets.

I don't have a favorite.  I have none to give special consideration.  I recognize that some developers are prone to making quality based on previous releases.  However I don't make the false assumption that they will always do so, nor do I assume that a shitty or unknown developer is incapable of producing quality.

I have enough experience that I don't even need to consider the history when looking at a game.  I can recognize the markers of a great game even before looking at the name attached to it.

God Dammit, make up your mind!
