Is ther 10% performance increase with the 768MB 8800 ULTRA (over the GTX) worth it? I' ll be overclocking whichever i get anyway and if the 640MB GTS is the baseline recommended card, i want the best i can buy (before 9 serries hits). The ULTRA is approx £100 ($200) extra which is nothing, but it' d also be stupid to spend more money if the real world performance increase is negligible.

all tech site do not recommend the Ultra over GTX, it' s a waste of money, $100 difference is not justified at all.

i' ve read reviews about it when it was released so that' s a long time ago but i remember very well the impression about it, tomshardwar, bit-tech, guru-3d and more just google it , they all said the same, the 8800 ultra is a rip-off, unless of course you don' t give a shit about money, then probably you should take 2 8800 ultra on sli, that' s the best market can offer.

The PC' s in the new games tech lab I built over the summer have Quadro FX 4600 developer cards with 786mb ram, and 4gb of ddr2 with dual xeon 2.somethings (can' t remember which) in. What sort of visuals would I likely see if I applied the Geforce hacks to the cards?

^ Theres always an ultra edition targeted at people with more money than sense. There are inevitabley a few. Id say go for the GTX, and spend the extra on another component, like the monitor, surround sound system, RAM, PSU or noise proofing etc.

I would go for a GTX if you intend on buying a 9*** series card. If you' re lucky you could end up getting an A3 core anyways, which is an ULTRA chip. They' ve been replacing the older A2 (GTX) with A3' s even for the GTX' s. The difference between the two at most games running maxed at 1920x1200 is about 5-10 fps. Even when money is no object, I still wouldn' t recommend it.
