Bug Report: 2004-Sept-19 Psi-ops, Fable, Burnout 3: Takedown, Beyond Good and Evil, Elder Scrolls Three: Morrowind, Bugs Bunny & Taz: Time Busters, Driv3r
September 17, 2004 - IGN has always been on top of things; that' s why we periodically gather a list of the nastiest game-stopping glitches and offer recommendations on how to avoid them. While not everyone is destined to experience the same " bugs" , we know how frustrating they can be for the gamers who do face them. Here' re some recently reported glitches/bugs to look out for:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox Live)
The big news in bugs this week has been about Burnout 3: Takedown and issues with Xbox Live. There is an article about on the Xbox site here. There was a recent software update, and EA and Criterion are currently addressing the issues that are noted below.
The Xbox Live Bugs:
Players can' t launch game: When trying to launch a game, the launch button is grayed out. There is no message telling you what' s up.
Friends List function is broken: The friends list function is unreliable and frustrating.
Can' t Join Annoyance: If you can' t join a friend while he or she is in a different lobby, join the club.
Account Inactive Bug: Sometimes you will be logged off while waiting for someone else to finish racing. The message reads " this account has been inactive."
Communication Issues: People in the same room can' t always hear one another. If you fiddle with the audio output settings you can regain functional audio.
Random Disconnects. Servers drop players randomly.
Gamers from different Territories can' t play: Matching 50 hertz games (Europe) with 60 hertz games (North America) with a game that runs this fast appears to be the main issue. It appears that Criterion didn' t want to lose speed and framerate by having these mixed territories playing together.

Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox)
The Bug: I have a three month old in good condition xbox unit (the green Halo Xbox unit). It seems that my Burnout 3 game crashes on me whenever I use my own soundtracks. This has occurred about three times already. I haven' t experienced this problem yet when I' m using the EA Tracks. Please let me know if you' ve had this problem too.
The Fix: I have personally experienced this bug with custom soundtracks. So far I do not know of a fix for this problem other than not using a custom soundtrack. Another problem people have encountered is that the game resents to the EA Tracks every time you restart the game. -Dave

Fable (Xbox)
The Bug: Help, I was accompanying/protecting some traders through Darkwood (Trader Escort Quest). I told the traders to wait at the top of a hill and he got stuck behind some rocks outside of the accessible area after an enemy attack. Is there anything I can do to get him to follow me again?
The Fix: Don' t bother leaving the area, that will not reset the character. Your only chance to get him out (if you can' t target him and tell him to follow you close-up) is to try and target him from afar and zap him with some magic. Walk away, then return to where you left the trader. If the attack didn' t knock him back into the regular area, try it again. If you don' t get him out this way, the only thing you can do is to save your stats and retry the quest from the beginning.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Driv3r (PS2)
The Bug: I found a glitch in Miami. If you play the game for a long period of time (2 hours) just driving around. It was by Tanners Hang-out, the one off the freeway. The bug is when you walk around or hit something that the generator can not produce you just fall under Miami.
The Fix: The only way to fix this bug is to restart the game. Simple as that. It has not glitch-ed in a mission game yet.

Psi-ops (PS2)
The Bug: In the training room, after unlocking the psi-beasts, for practice against. Activate the psi-beast and get it to start chasing you, then throw the large unconnected ball at it and the game will lock up.
The Fix: Avoid throwing the ball during this segment of the training.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind (PC)
I found this to be a fatal bug on 2 machines, 2 different discs, 3 different sound/video, and 2 different operating systems (Wind 98SE/XP).
I created a Briton Adventurer, with persuasion as, both minor and misc.
I then entered the warehouse and looted it of the items.
I then went directly to talk to the thief, Forget name, received my personality boost, went to the store. Saved outside to insure I would find the items I wanted (all random). Entered store, if items were what I wanted, I then saved inside. Donated 10g to get 100%. Saved.
I then went outside to the thief again, saved, used persuade on him, reloading when I started to go down. Increased my persuasion skills to 40+ then went to buy items. This caused the msg, Error, duplicate boxes, barrels, etc.
After I had played for a long time, ignoring the error msgs, I would load a game and after about 30seconds to 1 minute, I would be kicked out into windows. I would reload the game, start playing and the same message would repeat itself and I would be kicked back to windows. Upon recommendation I changed the video card twice, the sound card twice, and the operating systems, from XP to 98es. I Tried a completely different computer, different disc, and sound/video card in it and got the same problem.
I have tried going directly to the next town on the silt strider, increasing my persuasion, and I get the same error after reloading. If you have any idea why it does this with the Britton I would like to know.
The Fix: Unfortunately this game has more than a few bugs, some of which seem to be character specific. All we can recommend is to start a new game and avoid the actions that caused this error. If anyone else has experienced this type of problem please write in to the bug report at

Beyond Good and Evil (Cube)
The Bug: I have been noticing that the game loads up to the select language screen and then when i press A, it doesn' t do anything. I have tired a number of controllers but with no luck. No idea on how to counter except to keep resetting until it works.
The Fix: In cases such as these, resetting is the only answer.

Bugs Bunny & Taz: Time Busters (PC)
The Bug: I have Windows XP and I couldn' t use my game pad to control Bugs and Taz, I tried everywhere for a fix and even called the game hotlines and was told there was no resolution for the problem. I was gutted.
The Fix: You have to go to the program file find the bb2.exe and in properties click to make it compatible with win 98. Then make a shortcut of this .exe wherever you want and use it to run the game not the installed shortcut. In other words: Locate the bb2.exe and activate Windows 95/98 compatibility (98/98ME is better, depending on the game) from executable' s properties. Should fix the majority of the WINXP and older Windows games (like C&C Tiberian Sun) unless there is further conflict with existing sound and video devices or drivers.
