Off the Record 09.20.04

Hm… Brute Force 2 and Crimson Skies 2?

September 20, 2004 - Today' s update of Off The Record it short but sweet. We' ve heard this interesting little tidbit from a few places now, and we' ve called Microsoft, who naturally preferred not to comment on either subject.

Brute Force 2 and Crimson Skies 2
Despite ranging reviews scores on Brute Force, for Xbox fans, there is little argument -- they want a sequel. And it' s been some time since Digital Anvil' s action-heavy squad-based game, which debuted in May 2003, grabbed fans by the ghoulies (Ok, that was Rare, but we couldn' t ignore it). So, what' s the deal? We' ve been phoning Microsoft for days, and they simply will not comment on Digital Anvil right now. But DA is working on something. Several little birds outside of Microsoft' s eyrie have hinted that both Brute Force 2 and the air-based adventure game Crimson Skies 2 (developed by Microsoft and co-developed by FASA) are in the works for next year' s Xbox (not Xbox 2).

The rumor is something we' d very much like to believe, and it makes sense that Microsoft would line up two system favorites for the Xbox in fall 2005, while probably lining up new and original IPs for Xenon (Xbox 2). But it' s still very much a rumor. In other words, MS won' t comment, but both teams are hard at work on more games specifically for Xbox. If were betting lads, we' d put money down on both happening. If MS would tell us, we wouldn' t have to bet at all! Keep your eye on these news of these games popping up something around December of this year or January 2005.
