Yahoo! News Well its pretty much a given that violent media of all kinds will desencitize an individual. Is that really somthing to be worried of? I dunno, what are you views on this recent study?

Just seems to me that Americans always look for someone else to blame, than the parents. Kids play as many videogames here in denmark as in the US, and hey, there arent even anything with holding kids from buying M, or even A rated titles, and we dont have highschool shootings, or violence in that maner!

No offense but it' s not just americans though a lot of people are depending on outside influences i.e media mainly tv to be the sole source of nannying (sp?) their kids. Then search for potentially controversial or un-ethical stuff to bring to the forefront as a display of how good a parent they are.......I think.

While some parents can take some of the blame for the way their children act, at the end of the day I think the blame should fall on the kids themselves.. Let' s face it, some kids can be (are destined to be) real a$$holes and no amount of parenting in the world is going to change that..

Research has proved that a childs future personality is decided by how the parents treat it in its first couple of years in life. That' s the time where you need to teach them about right and wrong and how to behave. Also, culture has a big part in it. In some cultures some things are simply more accepted compared to other cultures and that affects the behaviour of even young children.

I don' t think there' s any one problem. Yeah some blame falls on the media, but not an amazing amount. Some blame falls on culture. Some blame falls on parents, and bad parenting But in the end, these kids aren' t forced to do anything they' re doing. You can teach ignorant, but there ' aint nothing you can do for stupid. There' s always going to be stupid people doing stupid things, and I think there' s alot to be said for shutting up, and doing your part, and leave the finger pointing to the Angry Letter Writing Mothers of America.

Ya bring up a point. I think the fact that gaming is becoming more and more mainstream is a big factor in this. As more people get into gaming it means more people from different " Cliques" and interests are being added into the mix. So of course with this growth you' re bound to find more and more fuck ups. The thing is thats the same for everything. When an industry grows so does the ratio. Lets say per every 1000 normal gamers theres 1 fuck up in the earlier days. Now fast forward many many years and you bring in more and more gamers, the ratio will increase on both ends. More gamers more fuck ups on avg. However, the arcticle wasnt about increased violence but about how media desencitizes its viewers. Which I think is very much true. But I dont see that as a horrible thing that will lead to a depraved life or anything. So you can handle blood and guts in the real world much better then soemone who may be detered from violent media. All that means is when somthing bad happens the one who is into violent media will be much more calm and rational while the other non watcher is freaking out cause of some blood. Desencitized is not a form of retardation. You' re not gonna be desencitized to the point that when somthing bad happens to another person you' re just gonna sit there dumb as fuck and do nothing. Thats what the article was saying that someone who views violent media will pretty much not care when in the real world somthing bad happens. Thats one of the stupidest generalizations Ive heard from this whole argument against violent media.

if they were to ban violent video games then the kids are just gonna blame killin someone on a damn movie then what? are they gonna try to ban movies too? and if that doesnt work they just blame it on a bad neigborhood or bad parents.
