AMD makes the Athlon precessors.

I don' t see this making any noticable impact. It would be stupid for AMD to limit ATI in any way, they would actually lose money.

Maybe they will put their heads together and come up with a motherboard that' s powerful enough to eliminate the need for a seperate graphics card. That would be cool for the laptop community.

I' m just a little troubled that ATI felt a need to sell. Are they in trouble?

Athlon , duron - they are the only competition for intel

GOOD or BAD? I' d say no difference.

Ati earns money on their cards and athlon on their CPUs - they might make some integrated chips or nice sets of components together , but you' ll always be able to buy an ati card separately since it pays their bills.

I just saw that somebody said that already :)

They were in a bit of a " difficult situation" , but now they support Wii and 360 so they would surely survive and maybe more than that.

Nvidia however got a nice deal with apple to suuport new ipods, plus they seem to be doing well financially.

Would love to know if it was a hostile bought up or not.

Remember how EA tried to buy ubi soft?
After they bought up hostile 20% of ubi soft french gov paid and helped ubi soft get back on their feat,

This is why i Hate EA.
They even tried to buy up UBI SOFT.

WTF?!

I REPEAT WTF?!

I' d rather they be seperate companies. Hopefully they don' t try to pull any stupid compatibility stunts. I was planning on buying an intel proc and an ATI graphics card within the next few weeks. Not entirely sure on the ATI card thing though, I could decide to get an NVidia instead.

oh yeah EA sucks.

There' s a really interesting article on the whole thing here:

There' s a lot of speculation, but most of it makes sense..

I think we should be excited about it. This will force most of the major players within the chipset industry to rethink, reinvent and adapt themselves to this development. This will lead to greater innovation and better products for us all.
