ACCLAIM Possibly going under? - Jul 02, 2004 19:03
The company reported a $25.4 Million net losss. They' ll need cash to replace a financing agreement with GMAC Commercial Finance. If they fail to do so...they may be forced to cease operations or seek bankruptcy protection.

I haven' t heard much about the company latly so I guess this isnt a big surprise...what was there last big game neways?

You mean they are still IN business? They brought over some good Saturn games from Japan back in the day, plus they also got Fabio to be on the box cover to one of their knight-hopping games!

The UK office has been going through some changes throughout the year. It’s not the first time this has happened and it won’t be the last, which was in 2000 after the final Turok. This made Acclaim sit down and take a look at the quality of titles they were releasing and the quantity they were manufacturing.

Problems caused by poor titles and too much stock were compounded by their miss calculation of marketing budgets which were far exceeding the development budgets. Besides these issues their investors appeared very impatient when it came to the quarterly figures, marketing campaigns were built around these “impatient” decisions and games were rushed out to satisfy them.

All of these issues compounded Acclaims problems, but it’s a circle of events. Acclaim do well, their investors become greedy, they damage the company, go back to their original structure.

Right now Acclaim are restructuring so the next year will be tough but they have enough nearing completion to stay in the market. They just need titles like Juiced to do the business or they could have more problems next year.
