vista baseline scores - Jan 08, 2008 05:09
Does anyoneout there know, what the baseline score for a 7600GS OC with 512Mb should be? I have a PC in front of me which has one of these inside and it is only showing as 4.1. Have looked about on the net and the old 66' s and 68' s are getting this score and in some cases better. The owner of the machine is saying that it should be higher and to be honest after looking around maybe it should be. Anyone out offer some reason behind it?

I am thinking it could be something to do with unlocking some of the pipes, but I am loathed to do that, unless I know this will sort out the issue for them.

Thanks in advance.

7600 is a budget card isn' t it? It should be getting in between the 6600' s and 6800' s. I don' t know what a vista baseline score is though.

Sounds about right. My current rig with an 8800GT gets a 5.9.

As long as it plays games well, who cares?

This isn' t exactly a budget card and I would expect it to have a better baseline score than the 6600 and the 6800. The guy paid £129 for it about a year ago plus it has someling like 512Mb on board.

The rating system is currently capped out at 5.9 for all parts, nothing is higher, the 8800GT would score beyond 5.9 otherwise. A 7600GT spanks a 6800 ULTRA, and I believe a 7600GS is just below that. But who knows the 7600GS comes in different clock speeds, I know the fanless ones are clocked lower, so the results would be around there. Besides I' m pretty sure the CPU and other components still come into play even if the test is only supposed to be testing the GPU only.

Do you know the clock speeds?

Clock speeds are as follows, this is becoming a bit of an arse to be honest, I might just suggest he goes back to XP and waits for SP1 for vista. The clock speeds are as follows.

Core Clock Speed
420 MHz
RAMDAC Clock Speed
400 MHz
Video Memory Installed
512 MB
Technology
DDR II SDRAM

He' s probably getting normal scores. As I mentioned the rating isn' t out of ten, it only goes up to 5.9 .

He has an entry level card anyways. You get what you pay for.

4.1 for a score isn' t that bad. Besides, why are you even paying attention to the Vista baseline scores? They really don' t mean much. If the machine plays his games and runs all of his other stuff smoothly there' s nothing to worry about.

I' m not bothered I have explained that, but he has been told the better the score the better the machine, he is a bit of an arse and knows nothing about IT, but likes to make sure he has the best of everything.

Gotcha. Well if he wants the best of everything he' ll have to upgrade his video card. I really don' t pay any attention to the baseline score because it rates my system at a 5.3 which is caused by my ram. Everything else is rated 5.9. I find the Vista rating system a little retarded.
