Curved DLP Display coming from Alienware - Jan 09, 2008 20:41
Will see release in the 2nd half of ' 08.

There are four LED-backlit DLP projectors inside.

2880 x 900 resolution.

Mimics peripheral vision.

Official specs report less than .02-millisecond response time.

It' s going to be an Alienware product, but it' s being developed by Ostendotech.

The ideal viewing position is directly in the middle at about two feet away.

For such a big screen, the resolution seems quite small.

It looks very sexy, but very expensive.

Aww man... you can see seams in it. Especially in that last shot.

This is an early prototype version. The screen will be seamless when released to consumers. While it looks cool I' m not looking forward to hearing the price.

Its pretty cool. I' d imagine unless games were made with it in mind, the image would distort a bit when you panned round.

I like the severed head stuck on the top left corner in the last pic. An optional accessory methinks. Could have one on either side.

I' d heard about this a few days ago, though these are the first pictures I' ve seen. I' m not sure quite what I think of it yet.

It looks neat in the photos, but I can also see some people having issues with it. Mimicking peripheral vision, they would have a hard time concentrating on a large portion of the screen at once.

...Boy does it look purty though.

And what would take advantage of this screen? I doubt any games will be programmed for it. And I wouldn' t buy anything from that company until they come up with a name that isn' t as lame as " Alienware" . I recommend " Sage' s Creation" or something ultra cool like that instead.

I prefer something monolithic-sounding, like " Consumer Product Manufacturing Corporation."

I have extreme doubts about the DLP part of it being able to respond that fast. DLPs have extremely slow response times.

It is kind of cool and obviously would give you an advantage in FPS, but the performance of having to render that much more would be a pretty big hit.

But the resolution isn' t even that great. It has only slightly more pixels than a 24" screen and much less than a 30" . I don' t think performance would be an issue if you had a decent rig. I' d be more concerned about motion sickness after extended use. When you start to encompass peripheral vision with 3D images on flat screens, many people would probably start to feel ill.

yeah i guess the resolution isn' t really that high.
I don' t think motion sickness will really be a problem, people will get used to it fast.

" Sage' s Creation"

Joe... That sounds like a bad Saturn game.
