I got mine pre-ordered.

Sony' s launch is gonna be messed up for various reasons. I' ll list a few:

A) 500,000 units world-wide.
B) Gamestop has been reporting that initial shipments will be 4 or 5 units per store.
C) Pre-orders are gonna be sh*tty on a greater scale than the 360 was (considering they had more units available at launch and people were STILL getting pre-orders filled in March of the next year!)
D) A rep at Gamestop told me that if a person is not there to pick up their system right away (he says he doesn' t know how many hours we' re talking about, but it will be measured in HOURS) then they will sell their units.

Considering the " 4 or 5 units per store" , I think it' s CRAZY for anyone to believe that anybody other than store employees or their close friends are gonna get those units. If you' ve pre-ordered, don' t be surprised when they say, " Sorry" when you show up to get your console.

I' ll wait until they work out the bugs in the hardware. Sony consoles always have bugs at the beginning. You' re lucky if you get one that keeps on working. The Xbox360 was the same way.

Also, the " short supply" is a tactic used to create a larger demand for the product. The harder it is to get, the more people want it and the more media attention it creates. More people talk about it, the media reports how it always sells out within seconds of being stocked, casual people think this is the biggest thing to happen on the planet EVAR, and Sony is pleased. Worked with the Xbox360.

After all of the warnings about poor availability, did you really think it' d be that easy to get one? Very very few people will have a PS3 this Christmas. The rest will have to just Wii/360 it.

I think you' re exactly right about that. I called a couple of locations to no avail. I only wanted one to re-sell it, so no luck for my devious scalping plans.

Yeah i don' t know if anyone has seen this but some fool has been selling his preorder reciept for US$1,000,000 - the reciept! which has only paid US$100 of and the docket doesn' t clearly show the ps3 as the object being pre ordered.

Actually, I' m not allowed to buy a launch PS3 from my store....

That' s when Gamestop employees team up with, ummm, Gamecrazy employees (I guess... don' t know of any other game store in existence but EB and they ARE Gamestop) and buy each other' s PS3 stocks.

I get that but i' m not sure others will.

As for the PS3 pre-orders - GameStop sold out quickly, claimed quicker than 360 which is pretty obvious as Sony have far less units available. GameStop and EB got on average 8 machines per store, 2 of which could be sold to staff and the rest will obviously go to the people they have made arrangements for.

I' m pretty sure that there are no machines left to pre order so if you didn' t get yours reserved then you' re sh!t out of luck.
