Wii video playback vs PS3 video playback - Dec 28, 2006 07:04
I played the Spiderman 3 Trailer (480p) on the Wii using the Photo Channel and the same trailer on the PS3, except it was a 1080p version. Here are the results.

Wii

PS3

Agent Ghost

Yeah, it' s really compressed. I went back to the original 480p quicktime and reconverted it using a much higher bitrate. Should look better now.

Ummm, what does this prove, exactly?
Everybody already knows that a 480p trailer isn' t going to look as good as a 1080p trailer. That' s the nature of the tech.

It would help if your Wii photo wasn' t crap quality in the first place. Looks like you were shaking the camera a bit.

Nah, it looks like this.

It would have helped if your photoshop aligned with the frame of the TV.

You fail. :D

Can you post a 1080p blue ray movie clip and a 720 [same clip on ps3] so for comparison?. I dont really think this 1080p is really worth it, Unless your House was built around your tv.

Cheers.

Well, here' s a Blu-Ray clip from Monster House at 1080p... I don' t have any 720p shots though. Wouldn' t really do much good since even if I set the PS3 to output 720p, the HDTV would just upscale it to 1080p anyways.

You would need to find someone with a native 720p HDTV for a comparason.

Oh, here' s a good shot of Gran Turismo HD in 1080p too...

Oh, 1080p is worth it. I could never go back to 480i.

The Wii Stickers I stuck on just for the fun of it. I' ll take them off.. eventually.

I was busy with school, soccer and martial arts a while ago... so I might of missed this...

When did the Wii get video play back? I thought the Japanese were the only ones that got the DVD playback and that sometime in 07' there would be a softwear update (or something like that) that' d allow video playback on the Wii.

Did I miss something?

Soooooo.... what the hell was the point of this thread anyway?

Maybe if you wandered back to the QJ forums for a while and got used to people not being tech savvy, but seriously, 420p looks worse than 1080p? No f****** really.

Why pay that much more when 1080p and 720p arent that much different. I swear, if people keep spending more time making video game graphics look more realistic we' re all gonna forget what real life looks like

While there is no point in comparing 1080p to 480p, and its worth joking about, you guys have to admit it looks nice.

Who here wouldn' t like a big screen that can do 1080p? I say, if you have the money, and you would use your TV a lot, get it. People spend thousands on dinners, ugly furniture, and bad art. It' s not like 1080p is going to get outdated soon, so you will get a lot of use out of it.

That said, if I had the money, I would try and get an extremely high end 1080p projector. I would love to play all the next gen racing games on a 90" + screen, with the high end wheels.
