What was the first DVD you bought? - Jul 01, 2004 00:30
Mine was The Matrix. I got it with a DVD player for £100 and bought it as they said it would be superior to the VHS version. I' m not really that much of a DVD person though with Cinema, Cable, Sky & the internet (hehe) being sufficent for my movie needs.

It was a package of several movies that came with the DVD player. Eraser, Sphere, and 3 others I can' t remember off the top of my head. This was back in like 96 or 97 I think.

That' s easy..

The first DVD I ever bought was The Transformers: The Movie. I didn' t own a DVD player at the time but I was getting a PS2 within a matter of days and I wanted The Transformers movie to be the first disc popped into the unit.

Also the first Video Cassette I ever bought was also The Transformers movie, hehe. Bought it back in the 80s and paid quite a hefty penny for it. That to was bought before I even had a VCR, lol..

GoldenEye and Twister. I had gotten one of the first DVD players available, and those were some of the first DVDs available. It was a combo LaserDisc/DVD player. I had hooked the unit up to go though the inputs of my S-VHS VCR and from there to the TV. That[' s where the story gets interesting. I pop in GoldenEye and it plays fine. I pop in Twister and the screen keeps getting darker and lighter... darker and lighter. Pissed me off! I took the DVD back and they gave me a refund. It turns out that it was the damned Macrovision copy protection scheme! Since the player was hooked through the VCR, the Macrovision automatically assumed I was trying to record it (because EVERYBODY is a pirate), and it has a signal that disrupts the VCR' s gain circuitry. Pisses me off!
