Sonic doesnt fail, just Sega - Oct 10, 2008 10:48
Fixed.

This is, of course, the Bioware RPG. EGM has reviewed it already, giving it an A. And while that rating scale is stupid, the review makes several mentions of "action-sequences" that break up the turn based battles to add variety. You can evade enemy attacks with timed stylus movements, and the boss fights actually require skill, not just leveling up. All in all, I figured this would somehow be epic, after all, it is Bioware.

I've heard mixed reports about this one but the consensus seems to be that it's a "solid" game at the very, very least. Agreed about Sega - Sonic deserves better :(

Well at least it's solid which can't be said from a lot of the later games. Although I sometimes get the impression that a few of those get judged a little more harshly than needed. As if people are a bit tired of having all those bad Sonic games and therefore give it an even lower score as a result.

You linked to a Wii Sonic game by Team Sonic.  Fail.

That was indeed epic fail. I fixed it, and beat myself with a DC controller.

It's also worth noting that EGM's review and IGN's seem to be polar opposites on many issues. Then again, I trust EGM more than IGN. Hell, I trust OJ Simpson more than IGN.

It's really weird to have such diverse scores. I suspect that the scepticism towards Sonic games in general might play a role.

There's also the fact that it's an RPG for younger players... if these drunk 30-something critics were expecting some kind of "dark and gritty" re-imagining of the Sonic canon with intense moral quandaries, I'm sure they'd be disappointed.  And IGN's reviews of Sega games can be disregarded completely.

IGN's reviews of any game can be disregarded. They are often filled with blatant fanboyism, bandwagon hopping, and misinformation.
