The idea is great and hopefully with good ISP providers this would be the ultimate option.

I mean could you imagine...

Most UK ISP' s have caps on their DSL broadband services, with keeping everything on a server.... I already wont go with a capped service but then add to my usage storing and retrieving files from a server...

Man UK ISP' s suck ass.. I' m looking for a new one currently.. It used to be so easy.

Im looking for a new one for when I move too, they use traffic shaping during the day, probably giving my bandwidth to some company or other, which is just cheeky!

With regard tot he article, they have been forcasting the demise of pcs for over ten years now, its a bit of a pipe dream. It' s like saying house ownership will drop in the uk and everyone will be happy leasing cars and never owning their own property. People always want their data where they can get their hands on it.

I wouldnt want my data backed up on another companies hardware either!

uumai - maybe we shld do a list of ISP' s not to go with on another thread, and work out who is the best? I' m looking for an unlimited 8mb pipe with no traffic shaping!

Pipex have got me over a barrel - im moving so there is no point in re-subscribing with them, if I do I will have to pay a £60-70 disconection charge in a few months when I move. But as it stands Im paying 200% what the connection now costs - I' ve been on 2mb for about 3 years or more.

So I' m stuck, but I' ll at least feel better if I know who Im going to go with.

I actually didn' t care much about their " dying PC' s aspect" - I like the idea of your files always with you no matter where you are.
