Any Good Streaming Audio Recorders? - Feb 22, 2008 09:04
I' ve been hunting around for the past hour, and you either need to buy a license, have it insert an audio watermark into the song you' re trying to record, or have it record at 90-something kbps.

Can someone suggest a good streaming audio recorder? Free would be good, but if you can suggest a reliable quality piece of software I can probably get my hands on it if it' s widely enough known.

Thanks?

Windows sound recorder, located in accessories.

Creative has a bunch of nice recording programs that come with their sound cards. I don' t know if it is free on their site or if you could even use it without a creatives sound card.

Hmm, well I just have a Soundblaster Audigy in my computers... I set the recording properties to " what you hear," then use any software to record. Personally I use SoundForge. Keep in mind, of course, you are recording in realtime, and need to turn off your system sounds if you' re going to be doing other things while recording. But who in their right mind has system sounds on, anyway?

Audacity is good and free. Is that what you mean?

Audacity' s great, but when I go to select source, the pull-down bar is greyed out, and no matter what I do, I can' t get it back to usable.

It' s worked in the past, which is frustrating, because I don' t use the app too often.

Ah well though, I found a nifty little in-browser app called Freecorder that works absolutely brilliantly. I' m already running uber-extension FF, so I' m gonna have to clean it up a bit, but at least it' s functional.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I had that problem with it before too, cant remember how I fixed it...maybe reinstalling or playing with the preferences or something.

Anyhow, glad you got something.

2000.

It' s butt-ass ugly, but seeing as this PC isn' t mine (Mine' s running skinned XP), I' m not in control of what OS it' s running.

Y' see Nitro, I live with technophobes. The mention of updating to an OS from some time in the past 5 years scares the piss out of them.

You should mention any vulnabilities found in Windows 2000 wont be fixed, and can be exploited by hackers to steal personal information.

Upgrading is the only way to be safe.

Heh... well that' d be something like logic my friend, thereby excluding it as an option to get them to switch.

I' m honestly considering just backing up the important data, and upgrading it myself. I can set all their profiles to the old 2000 skin, and I' m not sure they' d know the difference. Meanwhile, I' ve got a functional OS to work with that doesn' t look like absolute shite.
