Operation Flashpoint: 2 Trailer Looks Good - Jul 12, 2008 10:48
I have a hard time believing it' s in-engine, or looks anything remotely like that, if in engine, but it' s a well crafted trailer if nothing else.

I disagree. It looks, at least stylistically, very similar to the original Killzone and Call of Duty 2 CGI trailers. I' m missing the part that looks shitty.

Besides, the original FlashPoint was good, and the VBS simulators are brilliant. I don' t see how badly they could foul this up.

I fucking hate CG. It' s so rarely done properly when it comes to videogame trailers and cutscenes. Part of the problem is that it' s almost never done inhouse. Only really Square-Enix do their own, ...everybody else outsources it.

The best non-Japanese CG has to be the stuff by whoever does the Warhammer/Warcraft stuff and the Halo Wars trailer that Blur Studios put together.

After MGS4 however, i don' t think it can be argued that the astronomical costs that come with CG are offset by any kind of benefit.

I say leave CG to Square, they are the kings. Though Onimusha 3 and Dawn of Dreams had kick-ass CG too.

I don' t mind it really, but games have proven they don' t need CG to make awesome scenes. Look a DMC4 and MGS4.

Other than that, I don' t think it looks bad, but that' s definitely not gameplay footage.

I agree to a point. I haven' t enjoyed CG I thought was in game since Killzone, and I don' t think it has a place in games this generation (including Square Enix). I think it makes the slick details in the game itself look unimpressive in comparison, and it brings down the " wow" factor of a title.

CG has it' s place in promoting a game though. It does wonders to get people excited about a title, and at the end of the day, it' s rather nice to sit back and look at, even if you know it' s fake. You have to admit, the bit with the blades of grass flattening with the chopper at the end looked rather nice.

i havent watched the trailer yet but i know its running off a tweaked version of codemasters engine from DIRT and GRID. does it look similar? Would certainly make the engine quite diverse

Okay, so apparently I only watched the first 20 seconds when I first watched it. Now I see what everyone is talking about.

Well first you said this-

Then you said this-

Square isn' t the only studio that does cinematics in house. All Blizzard cinematics are done in house. Blur is responsible for both Warhammer and Halo Wars. They have nothing to do with Blizzard. Blizzard' s cinematics team is the best out there in the game industry bar none imo.
