Erm, isn' t this getting a bit ridiculous now?!

Can older HD-DVD players read this format? If so, I can see it being great competition for the blu-ray, if not, it seems a bit late in the game.

Wow, who let their kid run Toshiba for the day? I' m not complaining about more space, but c' mon... 51? Just for the sake of ticking Blu-Ray off? Glad it' s not just sony with the immature streak then.

One aspect that hasn' t really been discussed, (not here anyway) is not using HD-DVD/Blu-Ray as an HD-Media storage device. I' m waiting for HDDVD-RWs to hit the market, Now those interest me. The mass storage capabilities are scary, forget buying a $500 1 terabyte HDD set, pick up a stack of HDDVD-RW' s for 100 or whatever it' ll cost, & you' re good to go. Anybody else have similar ideas?

Even the cheapest BD-R player outstrips HD-DVD by hundreds of dollars in cost. You really think that' s going to change with re-writable drives?

If it had been Sony with that extra 1 gig you would have thrown a parade exclaiming how brilliant the folks at Sony Electronics are for their miracle breakthrough, and how it' s much more quality than HD-DVD because of it. Because basically you' re telling us that you' re shelling out anywhere from $250 to $500 dollars on a storage device because you like Sony. Did I mention that you' re getting less than HD-DVD?

I' d really like to get the HD-DVD add on for the Xbox360. But the problem is that I think there is only one movie for it that I want... Corpse Bride. Is there a list of what movies are currently available for each format?

I want a HD-DVD add-on too but I want to upgrade my computer first. In March I want to get Windows Vista and a Dx10 card. I' ll probably wait and get the add-on next summer.

I just read that Blu-ray without a doubt has won. I read it at two swedish news papers that has Las Vegas TT as their source. Not that they know anything but according to them seven out of eight studios are supporting Blu-ray. They say this was clear at CES. Can anyone confirm or call this BS?
But anyway, seven out of eight studios is alot.
They also say that the last battle, the Betamax VS VHS, wasn' t decided by technical superiority from any of the formats, but rather what the formats offered in terms of content.
There' s also a player from LG that supposedly reads both HD-DVD and Blu-ray

Format wars suck, and only hamper the progression from one dominating format to another.

As far as using HD RW discs, initial offerings will most likely only be single layer discs. That means only 25 gigs for Blu-gay, and 15 for HD-DVD. The discs will probably cost about $1 per gig, so it' ll be more expensive (at least initially) than the cost of hard drives (which I' ve seen as low as 25¢ per gig).

If you' ve got an HD tv and a 360, and don' t have the add-on, you should be shot. If you do start getting HD movies, make sure you get them from Amazon.com. If you buy 3 HD movies, you get 10% off all HD movies for a year! Besides the discount, their movies are usually at least a couple of dollars cheaper than I' ve found in the store, anyway.

I didn' t really pay attention to much ces stuff but im sure on ign they had that tdk or someone showed off the 200gb blu-ray disc, am i mistaken?
