ive been trying to set up my 360 LIVE account for a while now and both machines cannot seem to find each other!
any idea why this might be?

Do you only ever post here when you' re having some sort of technical difficulties?  I take it you got the wireless reciever for the 360? It looks like this...  If you do, then just follow these instructions

Mine is giving me grief as well lately. I' ve got a wired modem/router combo where the connection comes in, and cat5 to a 4-port switch room where my games are. The connection is fine, and it' s pretty self-explanatory that my PC is working now, but my 360 can' t find my IP address.

Hard-code IP settings into your X360 and use your router' s subnet mask, gateway, etc. Make sure you forward whatever ports 360 needs to it in your router settings.

Been there done that. Already inputted everything manually, no dice. I' ll check again & make sure I' ve got ports forwarded to the 360. This is getting irksome. Edit: Thank you for the help, by the way.

Regular routers suck. I always have the internet source connected to a PC with two network cards which is connected to a switch. It gives you complete control and you don' t have to worry about the NAT bullshit blocking games.

How does a switch give you more control over a router? Anyway I like wireless routers, I used to hate them till I got more to set as access points,I have 3 in my house, anywhere I connect I get 100% signal/speed.

You have the switch hooked up to your computer in one network card, then the internet connection to the other card. Then your computer assigns all the IPs and stuff and you can block specific things or pretty much anything you want. Instead of a regular router typically don' t have near as many options and can have annoying firewalls and such.
