The device is hand-shaped, so claim #21 makes me giggle. I have a dirty mind. Nice way for them to advance upon Nintendo' s idea. Now let' s hope they actually DO something with the patent this generation.

It' s a gimmick that will wear off in 6 months. Pure fad I tells ya. Won' t last. Bring back the Atari 2600 joystick, that' s as advanced an interface as we will ever need.

It does seem that rather than being a glove, it is something that sits in your palm and it is strapped to your fingers. Apparently we don' t like wearing gloves for gaming! and item 0043 in the detailed description provides for even more childish giggling.

oh dear... well I needed a laugh. Nothing will come of this though - Sony are always doing loads of controller research - they even " robbed" (well beat me to them) some of my quality ideas allready! They will patent them as a matter of course regardless of how good it is. I suppose this generation they will be looking to the future for the next big thing. This months Edge goes on about how we will have a controller revolution - personally I think that is rubbish... I mean, they told us in the 1960' s that steering wheels were old hat and would be replaced.. and almost 50 years later we are still using steering wheels! The reason I give you this reference is that because it was in the 1960' s that the first mouse and keyboard was produced!

it would be nice in games where where the minute details of hand position really matter.Stuff like golf, tennis, shooting free throws in basketball, etc. Graphic adventures would kick ass. they could do some stuff with it. Thing is, that' s a lot of external information for any system to process effectively. Any lag would completely kill the immersion factor, so games would probably be really simple.

I dont like wearing gloves for gaming. Think about if you go over to your friends apartment, ready get a beat down with som Virtua Fighter 5, so you borrow one of his " gloves" Then you think about sweaty bowling shoes!

Think of how many noobies would get pwned in onine FPS' that implemented this. Realistically though, it' d never get used for that. Congress would have a seisure & all would be lost to the depths of the American political runaround.

Actually, I' ve got some. It' s a set of old-tech virtual reality goggles with a set of headphones with a 10 foot lead. The VR set was no good anymore, so I ripped out the headphones & now have headphones I can traverse the room with.

Yeah, actually. except a LOT more accurate. Well the Tennis and sometimes the boxing aren' t very accurate but the baseball, golf and bowling are spot on.

I guess " accurate" wasn' t the word I was looking for. " More detailed" is more to the point. This thing detects the position of your individual fingers. For example, you could throw a curveball pitch by actually positioning your fingers the way you would on a real baseball.

Lets have a good look at this. For 3 generations of console sony has pretty much use the same controller plus some minor upgrades. But basically the ps1, ps2 and ps3 use the same controller. All of the sudden there patenting there own motion tech, an eyetoy Wii copy, and now this. Hmm. Interesting after 10+ years of the same controller (same design), once the Wii comes out sony is jumping on new controller ideas left right and centre. What does that tell you? IMO it seems sony think that Nintendos has got something right with there Wii concept and sony are scrambling to patent new technologies for there next console to ' one up them' next time.

Mastachefbkw, I think the powerglove was made by Matel, not Nintendo so don' t think they can patent it.
