20 Million Copies of Vista Sold - Mar 28, 2007 05:36

Microsoft has announced that more than 20 million copies of Windows Vista were sold in the month after the new OS was released worldwide on January 30.

That means Vista is selling at more than twice the rate of its predecessor - it took Windows XP two months to achieve sales of 17 million.

I' m suprised so many people adopted early personally.

How many copies did Microsoft buy for it' s employees? Probably covers half...

Seriously, I' d wager it' s more comercial licenses that have been sold than personal/home computing. Although a new builds at PC world etc all come packed with it now, so it' s probably still a good number.

I' m very surprised at this. Are they counting the number of people that are pirating it just to test it out? It would seem so, as I know of no one personally that has or would even consider Vista.

I sincerely doubt that. It the DX10 cards that helped more then any gaming related object or game.

I doubt would be the DX 10 cards either. It is more than likely the number of off the shlf PC' s that are to account for most of those sold, as are laptops bought before the release but are now eligible for a " free" upgrade.

Oh I never said the GPUS had a large impact, I was strictly comparing two gaming related factors.

Vista is a resource whore, and it is unstable and buggy. I have had 2 machines that have had a BSOD this week and they are all new dual core machines, running Home basic, thankfully not machines I have built.

Vista itself isn' t so bad, it' s seems like a decent step up over XP. The problem right now is that the drivers are buggy and unstable. Which is understandable as new ones had to be written for the new os.

Drivers yes, but when a BSOD is happening when you are inserting a USB 2.0 flash drive then surely there is something fundamentally wrong.

BTW there are going to be a lot of pissed off people out there when they find that although Vista will run on 512, it is slow as buggery it reminds me of the migration from 98SE2 to XP, but I still think Vista is a resource whore.

Who with only 512mb of ram will move to Vista? I know some people did and it boggles my mind, that they would upgrade their windows operating system before upgrading the hardware when it' s that bad. I have 2GB and by the time I upgrade to Vista I' ll have 4GB and at least a quad core CPU with a GPU suitable for God. The os is the last thing I upgrade. And I only do that if not doing so impairs my gaming.

I hate early software adopters who have ten year old computers and then complain that the software is crap. Those fucks don' t deserve computers.

Thank you so much for saying that. Seriously.
My rule is, if it' s time for a new OS, it' s time for a new computer. It' s just so much simpler that way.

Try looking at the off the shelf range of PC' s most are going with a gig of ram but there are a few running 512, and how it can run on a laptop is beyond me.

Marketing. They aren' t expecting you to be completely satified with the off the shelf unit. Sure, it' ll function just fine, but if you want to really do anything you' re going to need that ram upgrade.
That' s why on the product descriptions they always tell you what the ram is upgradeable to.
It' s a scam from day one. They gotta keep selling you stuff somehow.

Tha' s why when I build a machine the minimum I quote for is 1Gb and always rec 2Gb these days the price is negligable.

Does that number include business sales too? 20 million sales is a LOT of money!

Anyway, I' m not upgrading until full dx10 games come out with reviews that benchmark them better on Vista. Maybe when Crysis comes out...
