My friend traded his Toshiba Qosmio laptop for a MacBook and he' s never been happier.
" It just works" is the comment I hear the most from people who switched from Windows to eh uh... Mac or whatever the OS is called.

Well are you going for a gaming laptop or entertainment laptop or work laptop? If you are going for an entertainment or gaming laptop I would go with a higher end Dell. Although I dislike Dell they do make the best laptops.

Yeah, i was looking at Dells the other day. Their XPS range looks cool, and i was comparing them to Alienware laptops. I mean, a 2.16 GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB processor is impressive for a laptop, and 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM is enough (though i have seen some that support 4GB but they cost £1000 extra!!!).

I' m not sure what to get.

Get an Intel Core 2 Duo. 2 GB of memory is a good amount. But if you are going for a good gaming computer a laptop is going to cost way more than a regular PC.

I don' t advise going for something fantabulously amazing, not if you' ve got a solid home PC, although I guess it depends on what you' re using it for. If it' s just basic net surfing, video viewing, word processing type stuff, I' d say go for a nice Dell. . If you do end up getting a Dell though, check the battery for a Sony logo, Setting your loins ablaze right during the middle of a lecture really isn' t much of a turn on for the ladies.

Yeah go Intel. AMD sucks, especially with laptops... though I haven' t owned an AMD laptop in a long time, piece of shit used to run out battery charge in 1-1.5 hours.

I didn' t buy a DELL, i bought a Toshiba P100-240.

Teh specs...

Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 | clock speed : 1.83 GHz | front side bus : 667 MHz | 2nd level cache : 2 MB

2048 (1,024 + 1,024) MB RAM| maximum expandability : 4,096 MB | DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)

160 GB HDD

17 " | Toshiba TruBrite WXGA+ TFT display

NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB

It came with XP MCE which is actually pretty cool, and i chose this " desk book" over the DELL XPS, Alienware Aurora (because i couldn' t get a hands-on with one) and Toshibas Qosmio G30 series (because they only come with GeForce Go 7600 and i wanted a 7900).

I have to say that for a laptop the P100-240 is REALLY impressive. It' s also good to know that my graphics card is superior to RSX!!!

Half Life 2 (including Ep1), Doom 3 and FEAR (the only games i' ve tested so far) can all be played on maximum settings, all getting 80+ fps. Even though it' s cost me nearly £1400 i' m extremely impressed with the performance. I' ll post some photo' s and screenshots (from games) on Friday when i' m back home (i' m in Sheffield playing ice hockey tonight).

The only thing about laptops that annoy me is the short battery lives making using them away from a socket pointless. Still, this thing kills my VAIO which is going to my girlfriend and it performs better than my desktop. I' m impressed.

I know, but my selection was limited by the fact that i wouldn' t accept 1GB RAM and a 7600 GTX 256MB and wanted 2GB RAM and the 7900 GTX 512MB.

It' s perfect for what i' ll be using it for, though i may still get an Aurora late next year. I' d probably import though because Alienware products are extremely expensive here, much more so than in the US, but then the problem is not actually being able to see the thing and get a proper look at it before i buy it.

Also, with Quad core technology coming next year and dual screen laptop technology looking like it' s just around the corner something else may crop up.

damnnnnn I never thought about dual screen laptops. That would be pretty friggn' sweet. It could fold up then slide out or something like that and you' de have this huge friggn' dual screen.
