Marilyn Monroe – Suicide or Cover-up? - Nov 13, 2005 08:03
Hello. If you could give me your brief opinion, it would be much appreciated. I’m writing a paper for my Philosophy class at UVM with the focus being Marilyn Monroe’s death…which is listed as a “suicide” but many believe to have been a cover-up. I’ve been doing a lot of research on the topic i.e. collecting books, articles (this month’s Playboy actually had a great in-depth look at the whole story, including transcripts written by her to her psychiatrist…as did the LA Times back in August) films, etc…but I also thought to ask specific people throughout the net about their thoughts on the case.

Hopefully this topic won’t lead to too much flaming etc. And please be nice to the newbie! Like I said, any info would be great.

Thanks and think snow!

Mike M.

Who knows?!? Who cares?!? She wasn' t alive during my generation so, she doesn' t effect me. However, one of the best songs came forth out of her death.

" Candle in the Wind" - Elton John

Nope!

There are 2 versions of that song.

The original version was for Marilyn Monroe.

The 2nd version was for Diana even tho, Elton did not want to remix that song because the family said it was her favorite song. I mean if you think about it. The original lyrics for Marilyn do not match or have anything to do with Diana. That' s why Elton had to rewrite the whole song.

Marilyn Monroe Version

Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did

Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude

Goodbye Norma Jean
From the young man in the 22nd row
Who sees you as something as more than sexual
More than just our Marilyn Monroe

Princess Diana version

Goodbye England' s rose;
may you ever grow in our hearts.
You were the grace that placed itself
where lives were torn apart.
You called out to our country,
and you whispered to those in pain.
Now you belong to heaven,
and the stars spell out your name.

And it seems to me you lived your life
like a candle in the wind:
never fading with the sunset
when the rain set in.
And your footsteps will always fall here,
among England' s greenest hills;
your candle' s burned out long before
your legend ever will.

Loveliness we' ve lost;
these empty days without your smile.
This torch we' ll always carry
for our nation' s golden child.
And even though we try,
the truth brings us to tears;
all our words cannot express
the joy you brought us through the years.

Goodbye England' s rose,
from a country lost without your soul,
who' ll miss the wings of your compassion
more than you' ll ever know
Games are your best friend as long as you don' t start talking to them.

....that song is soooo crap, it actually makes me feel like taking one.....

...whilst on the subject, during her depressions, didn' t Ms Monroe take solace in regular enemas at some detox clinic or something? ....

...can you clarify mooser??...
