What Movies Have You Recently Seen Or Rented? - Oct 29, 2004 16:56
For me, and my family, we saw (rented) the following movies:

Day After Tomorrow - awesome effects, but rather stunted ending.
Garfield - All around great family movie!!!
Nemo - Another great family movie!!!
Scooby Doo 2 - Kid' s loved it alot, but I thought it was as cheesy as the first one.

What about you? What movies have YOU seen or rented recently?

...and what were your thoughts about these movies?

That' s very nice of you to soften the blow to the ending. But I won' t, I really liked the movie but thought the ending was complete $hitte!! The writers obviously and TOTALLY gave up with the ending and basically said " F' IT! Let' s wrap this up now!"

Speaking of recent movies, I bought the movie " White Chicks" and ABSOLUTELY LOVED it!!! I was laughing pretty much all throughout the movie, lol..

Dawn of the Dead:Unrated Version - loved the action horror of it
Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind - One of Jim Carry' s best movies
Invader Zim vol 3 - great cartoon humor
Ren and Stimpy Uncut - More good toon humor
Day after Tomarrow - havent finished it yet
Hellboy:director' s cut - good super hero flick

City of God-Great gritty movie about rival gangs in South America. I recommend it to everyone if you are over the age of 17.

Shaun of the Dead-Great movie involving zombies. I put it right up there with the new Dawn of the Dead. If you like a nice blend of horror and comedy then you' ll probably like this movie.

Saw: Decent movie although it was really ruined in the last half hour. The man that played as the doctor is probably the most overly dramatic actor I have ever seen. I found myself, along with about 2 rows of frat boys, laughing to tears during some of the last few parts.

Man on Fire: Wow...another great performance in a movie by Washington. He is definately up there with the elite actors, and in my opinion one of the best. The actress that played the girl also surprised me with her performance and I was happy to see during the previews before Saw that she has landed a movie with Robert Deniro. Anyways, if you like a powerful drama and action movie then this is your movie.

Next week I plan on seeing Alexander, which I' m hoping will be Troy-esque in battles and actor performances.

The last movie I rented was Secret Window with Johnny Depp. While not the greatest film ever I enjoyed watching the many plot twists and turns. The ending is odd but works I think.

Already posted that I went an saw " The Incredibles" -- true to its name.

Other than that, I purchased Garfield (boring), Shrek 2 (funny as hell, but I like the first one better), Van Helsing (pretty good, enjoyable) and Van Helsing animated DVD that is the prequel to the movie (again, I enjoyed it).

I recently rented Ella Enchanted (okay) and Kill Bill Vol 2 (excellent, much better than the first one).

Upon its recent DVD release, I purchased Shrek 2.

I' ve seen this movie twice and laughed my a** off each time!

Even with that said, the first movie was just a bit better.

Both are excellent, though.

Movies rented and viewed:
Garfield
Day After Tomorrow
Matrix Reloaded

I just rented Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkhaban (?)

Nice enough movie...kept in line with the other two.

I want to see #4, then see how the new director does with #5.

Also, just got The Lone Ranger on DVD...3 episodes for $1...who was that masked man? I just want my kids to see some of the more wholesome shows that I used to watch...

Other $1 DVD' s include: Little Rascals/Our Gang, Three Stooges, White Fang (original movie), and Sherlock holmes (movie).

I plan on getting more of the Little Rascals/Our Gang, Three Stooges, Lone Ranger, and other old-time TV shows.

Watched the following this weekend:

Spiderman 2 - not bad, but the first one was definitely better

Man on Fire - Excellent movie!! It brought tears to my eyes.

A Cinderella Story - Watched with my daughter (big Hiliary Duff fan). Not bad for a teeny bobber movie.

AH!

I just saw Bad Santa last Friday....While you felt disgusting watching BBT act like a fallen down drunk for 2 hours, the movie as whole ended up being a bunch better than I thought. I definitely recommend it to anyone. Not exactly a " holiday" film, but still manages to pull in the positive vibes of the season.

Wow...I' m seeing a lot of stuff in this thread that is making me wince. Spiderman 2 bad, or even worse...that the first was better...Donnie Darko bad...Queen of the Damn good!?!? This must be a sign of the apocalypse.

I said they were both bad. Spederman 2 had none of the charm of the first movie, instead relying on the angst ridden hero plot that' s been used to death. Enough, You' re Spiderman!!!! Do your job and slin me baddies!!! Plus my hatred for Kirsten Dunst probably didn' t help. Donny Darko was one of those movies that I' ll compare to the usual suspects. The whole movie, I was excited by the possibilities of what the writers had come up with to tie the movie together at the end. It had the possibility to be great, but with movies like that everything depends on how things come together, and if the writers can come up with something plausable and satisfying at the same time. The Usual suspects does that perfectly, Donnie Darko does not.
REcently rented Collateral with Cruise and Foxx, and I gotta say I liked it. Not great, but still pretty damn good. Also went to Team America World Police. Would' ve been way better as a 1 hour special on TV. It just seemed to take forever.

Team America - I saw a total of fifteen minutes. I fell asleep and woke once or twice. A mildly expensive nap if i must say so

Ocean' s Twelve - good. Not as witty or clever as the original. As a stand alone movie it would ahe been ok, but as a sequel it was lacking.

A Home at the Edge of the World - interesting and different.

Steppford Wives - meh

Anchorman: Damn good movie...really funny with several good cameos....

Meet the Fockers: Not as good as the original and it' s a little slow in the beginning, but it gets better towards the end.

Napolean Dynamite: Flipping great...

Garden State: Just picked this movie up, wanted to see if the newcomer Braff had talent and I can easily say he does. Great lil love story deal here. Zach Braff wrote directed and starred in this movie (his first) you can see him in the show Scrubs.

Battlestar Gallactica miniseries Vol 1: Well I never saw the origional movie nor did I see this on the Sci Fi channel but picked it up neways. Not that bad for a miniseries, considering shows like this are usually low budget sci-fi crap, this one looked quite impressive.
