Is it worth talking about Mobile World Congress? Windows Phone 7 Series? Or HTC's new lineup?

Until someone has the balls to rip off apple's multitouch I will not bother with anything but an iphone.

I thought the UK was way ahead of the US in the cell phone market.  Why are you guys still using things like iPhones?  That must seem so 1980's to you by way of comparison to where you should be at.

They have a supposed copyright on multi-touch screens for cell phones, some people don't think it can hold up in court but apple has hinted that it would pursue legal action anyway, most cell phone manufacturers aren't big enough to afford a legal battle against apple so they've all pussed out.

Nexus One launched without multi-touch but it was enabled in a ROM update a fortnight ago. The GSM version of the Droid launched with multi-touch enabled, and the HD2 supports multi-touch, but I'm not sure whether the handset is available in the US yet, and although HTC Sense is decent... it's still Windows Mobile underneath.

From what I know they still dont have all the touch features of the iphone such as scrolling, etc.

If they actually have full multitouch support I may be able to finally switch out of AT&T, though I'm still not sure, the iphone has too much market dominance with apps, games, etc.

This is true, but that kind of stuff doesn't mean an awful lot to me. Pinch zooming is pretty much all I ever use multi-touch for, on any of my devices. Since they all have excellent kinetic scrolling I don't feel like i'm missing out on anything. I tend to operate phones with one hand, using my thumb to navigate. It can be a little hard with the HD2 because it's tall and wide (4.3" screen), and that's one of the reasons I bought a Nexus One. I love my iPhone, but it has started to feel dated, especially in terms of screen resolution and customizability.

Pretty much. Nothing is going to even remotely touch the App Store for a long while yet. Games on Android and Windows Mobile are few and far between, mostly because of the fragmented operating systems and hardware specifications. I'm going to pick up an iPad - if the pixel-doubling feature works as advertised - so I can continue to use the rediculous amount of apps and games I've bought over the past two years.

AT&T kind of sucks (and you MUST have it if you have an iPhone).  It was awesome when it was called Cingular, great customer service, really nice and effective people.  Now they can go to hell.

No, in the United States its AT&T or nothing.  And we can't even do things like tethering because AT&T sucks.

In that case i'd have probably bought a Droid and gone with Verizon. I nearly bought one here, but held off until the Nexus One was available. I had a Pre for about a week and hated every minute of it. The OS is great but the phone itself leaves a lot to be desired in terms of build quality.

You can get phones that can be used with most providers, but not an iPhone.  I think Blackberrys might be limited to T-Mobile as well.

They don't sell them unlocked here, officially anyway, you can get one on ebay which is probably imported from europe, but from what I've heard it would only work on t-mobile and be missing half the features so it'd be pretty useless to buy a $600-700 phone to not be able to use most of it, as opposed to $99-$199 if you get it through contract from AT&T.

Iphone is pretty much the only thing that has been keeping AT&T from collapsing so I don't see them letting go of it any time soon.

Because for all of our technological advances, our cell market is still full of red tape, and exclusivity.
