So... are there any well built 360s yet? - Apr 06, 2009 08:54
So I'm going on #7 now, or perhaps 6, IDK, lost count.

It's an arcade one because I already have hard drives and shit, the motherboard is a "Jasper" and has HDMI... do these models still suck?  I'm done with 360 if this one breaks, fucking sick of this shit.

I keep hearing rumors that the newer 360s are better, won't break, etc.  But to be honest, we won't be able to verify these claims until this current generation has passed us by.  Play with caution!

I have a jasper as well, though its not that old, just a few weeks, its surposed to be cooler, and it atleast makes way less noise.

Mine's well fixed (thanks to Eddie) does that count?  1st box still going strong.

Still sounds like an aeroplane though.

They're all terribly made, but the Jasper runs 65nm processes on both the CPU and the GPU.

If they're smart, which they're not, they'll scale down the process size on the HANA scaler to 45nm. Hell, even 65 would be a start. The scaler's developing as the new silent killer on the scene, but then, none of us had kept a borked box alive long enough to watch it fail.

A total redesign of the ventilation is in order, but we won't get any sort of engineering revision until they go slimline, which rumor has it, has been put on the back burner thanks to the recession. They need to find a way to vent the box without passing the amount of hot air they do over the scaler, which proves frustrating when you still have aesthetics to keep in mind.

Would storing the 360 in a freezer as it is played help at all?

No the condensation would kill it.  You might as well chuck it in the bathtub.  Plus the expanding and contracting of the motherboard is what causes the failures in the first place.

I have a Japanese Xbox 360 and a U.S. model, the Japanese unit was purchased during the launch window of the console in Japan and the U.S. model was purchased about a month or two after the U.S. launch and both are still going strong. I have seen a couple red rings along the way but none of them were 'fatal'. A simple reboot always got rid of them.

It's kind of weird how I've never had any problems with the consoles that a lot of people had problems with (PS2, Xbox 360) but I've experienced problems with consoles that a lot of people didn't have problems with (Dreamcast, GameCube).

every console I have bought at launch has failed. First Dreamcast died, but by that time they were like $60 so I got a new one. My first Xbox died, but that was a week before 360 came out. My first 360 died when I let my brother use it with a power strip from the 80's. Second one also died randomly for no reason. -.-

Dreamcasts are fairly notorious for drive failure.  It either won't spin up or it won't read the disc.  I didn't know that Gamecubes could even have problems, though.  Usually you build a rock-solid reliable console when you want to fail.  You build a shitty console that breaks often when you want to be number 1 (NES, PS1, PS2, Xbox 360, etc).  Notice the PS3 is built well and now look at Sony's place in the market.

The bottom line is this:  If you want to be #1 in the videogame world, make a console that is absolute shit.  Videogamers are fucking stupid.  More stupid than most people and most people are stupid.

The only problem I had with my Dreamcast was that the controller port got fried. According to NCS, it was somewhat of a common occurrence when third-party controllers were used with the system, and sure enough, I was using InterAct's ugly as hell, bulky controller as a secondary controller.

My GameCube's drive stopped loading games after I left the system on for 2 days straight. Meanwhile my PlayStation 2 was built like a friggin tank. That thing fell from the top of a cabinet after someone tripped over the controller cord and on a couple of occasions I left it on for an entire week and it always worked fine.

No they all still get red ringed even the Elites, and im sure even the Jasper ones will too.
It's probably something to do with the Gpu, that they don't even know why it crashes.
Don't buy a new one, once they fix it it works well and i don't think it will ever get red ringed again.

In my case I've purchased 3rd party controllers when I found the 1st party controllers to be inadequate for the job.

For example: When Gradius V was coming out I was adamant about NOT playing it with Sony's d-pad. Probably my most hated d-pad of all time.. I purchased Sammy's  d-pad which was a thing of beauty. :D

In the case of the Dreamcast, for the first time ever Sega had a sucky d-pad/controller, so I had to seek out other options for shoot 'em ups and fighting games and ended up with an even suckier controller as a result. They should have just made the Dreamcast backwards compatible with Saturn controllers.

Nothing there makes me unintelligent, you guys can't even make valid arguments, it's like arguing with babies. You guys apparently went to college but yet go through 7 360's, instead of just letting them fix it. Are you screwing the machine, dropping it or what? Wow you've even got kids sure whatever, just proves your older than me but dumber.
I still doubt you guys are older than 10, you probably just went to private schools apart from Imoral which is probably trailer trash, but is 37.

Um, when they can't be fixed they send you a new or different refurbished one, dumb fuck. Those also break.

You are truly an imbecile, you come in here out of nowhere to talk shit about us "videogamers" saying stupid shit like because you play games you couldn't possibly have a girlfriend and saying we're 10 years old.  The median age here is around 25, practically everyone here has a girlfriend or is married, half of us have kids.  Even eddie has a girlfriend and he's a fucking loser.  You are a fucking idiot, go away.

Seems MS will include E74 error code fix under warranty from now on. Will even refund people if they paid to fix it.

That's good news. It's admission of failure, which has been a long time coming. They refused to even acknowledge that it was even part of the whole heat and warping set of issues up until just now.

I had a refurb unit sent to me in November and last night it RROD'd.  I pulled the plug, put it back in and had a night's gaming without problem, but looks like I'll back be back on the phone to their Indian helpless centre soon.

By far the best call center experience Ive had was with Velocity (a computer company). I called there a while back, and almost thought I dialed the wrong number. This really nice lady (she sounded like a southern black woman) answered, I explained the problem, and within 5 minutes they were sending me a new 1GB RAM chip with a bag to mail back the dead one. I asked the woman if she minded if I asked where the call center was, and she said Atlanta.

So bravo, Velocity. I got an actual english speaking operator when I called from an english speaking country.

M$ is complete shite, I had the unfortunate need to call them due to an alledged 'Code of Conduct' breach. My bio said:"All glitchers suck donkey balls." It has been on my profile for months, but they now decide to suspend me for it.

M$ have 2 levels of escalation agent (moron taking the initial call,) and Supervisor (moron trying to be important, the one I spoke to was called chadder or Chaddie and was french.)

Or maybe Chadwarden?

Never worked in a call centre, but I dont envy their job - talking to thousands of pissed off people all day doesn't sound like a rewarding career path.  I tend to get a good response from these phone help centres, 'cause I try not to be one of those pissed off people, which seems to make them more sympathetic.

I think we've had this discussion before.  No one smart works at a call center for long, that's why its usually young sounding clueless people picking up the phone.
