MadWorld UK Release Unadultered by BBFC - Jan 16, 2009 15:42
GI.BIZ Reports

The BBFC has passed the controversial Wii title MadWorld, granting it an 18 certificate and requiring no cuts to content. Sega's Sin City-style brawler has gained attention for its level of violence, uncharacteristic of a Wii title, which saw the game branded as "the most violent videogame ever" by The Daily Mail, warning the game will "dramatically transform Wii's image". However, the tabloid paper radically changed its tone on the game, later naming it as one of this year's "hottest new titles". Last October, developer Platinum Games attempted to quash fears that the third-person title would cause controversy with ratings bodies, saying that it was going as far as working with the US outfit ESRB and wanted them to feel "part of the process".

To be fair, it's so over the top it was always going to be ok. Manhunt 2 got banned (fuckers!) because it's arguably more "realistic" violence.

You're getting it, yeah?

I procured a Wii over the break. I haven't gotten around to playing much of it, what with finals and all, but after this week, I'll be sitting down with a copy of Mario Galaxy, and trying out No More Heroes.

No More Heroes is a great game... but it can get repetitive and it can be slow going. Don't let the lame driving put you off either because stylistically it's badass and really shouldn't be missed.

Super Mario Galaxy is incredible. Period.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves is pretty good. RE4 is obviously godly. Twilight Princess is a great game (although i still prefer WindWaker). Super Paper Mario might be worth looking at, ...but might not be your thing at all. Umbrella Chronicles is good, Zack & Wiki is ok for a laugh, Battalion Wars 2 is good, Mario Kart is good, Super Smash Bros Brawl is ok... but i'd expected better. Wario Land: Shake It is good... and thats about it i think.

The next two games i'll be getting are probably Fatal Frame IV and MadWorld. There isn't much else that interests me in this years lineup.

Yeah, I actually just sat down with it after I hopped off here. The style is brilliant, but the localization is absolute trash. I'll give it a few more shots, but I'm in love with Galaxy, so it'll probably hit the backburner. I'm always down for a good platformer, so I'll look at Paper Mario, it'll probably be dirt cheap by now anyhow.

Is RE4 worth the investment if I've already played the hell out of the GCN version?

The Daily Mail, warning the game will "dramatically transform Wii's image".

That's a bad thing?

Luckily the 19th "My Little Pony" game on Wii will counteract this.

Do you have a chipped console?

If not, no, and issues aside, I couldn't post the link to it here. It's illegal.

Question is... why would you want to play Manhunt 2?

If you want gore porn, the complete Hostel series is cheaper.

I've come to realize that humans are violent by nature.  You can't desensitize a person to violence.  It's society that keeps us unnaturally sensitized.  A person who enjoys violence already has predispositions, if the predispositions are not there they won't play violent games.  No one is forced to play violent games.  For this reason, even the most violent videogames can only bring buoyancy to our behavior.

If they're saying that violence is a flaw in humanity.  I would retort by stating that all of humanity is due to fallibility.  The only time we come close to a perfect thought is when we perform math (correctly).  Logic is the only truth.  Everything else is emotion.  I would rather be wrong than to give up my humanity.
