The Best and Worst of the year (2008) - Dec 07, 2008 13:56
Hey, there have been a lot of movies, games, events that hit us in 2008 that was just plain terrible or really awesome.

Seeing that 2008 is soon to end and the beginning of another year draws near,  I taught i would make this thread.

Best Movie I've Seen Entire Year:

The Dark Knight (no contest here) it was simply awesome.

Best Games I've played.

I had some fun with Metal Gear Solid 4 (single player) and Resistance Online. COD4 was great. GTA4 was good too (single player) and Unreal Tournament 3.

Worst Movies

Met the Spartians
Max Payne.....so disappointing.
The Punisher: War Zone. -Expected this to be bad and it lived up to that!

Did they re-release CoD 4 in 08, or did I miss something?

Why didn't you just make two separate threads, one for best/worst game of the year, and one for best/worst movie of the year?

What are you talking about, Eddie? The Large Hard-on Collider is a scientific breakthrough. I mean, its not like we've had smaller machines doing the same shit for years, and its solving a pressing problem.

Best Games of 08:
Castle Crashers. Seriously, buy it.
Fallout 3

Worst Games of 08:
GTA 4. Controls are garbage, everything moves like it's wading through 3ft of shit.
Gears of War 2. The MP component is almost unplayable due to Epics shitty netcode. Way to go, failures, it was done correctly on a console in 04, even earlier on PC.

Best Movies:
Dark Knight, obviously.
I also thought Zac and Miri Make a Porno was fucking hilarious.

Worst Movie:
Burn After Reading. When even Clooney cant save the movie, it shouldnt have been made.
I dont want to celebrate, I want to sell you hate.

Wait...what? You didn't like Iron Man?  I take it that you never read the comic or watched the cartoons.  Downey Jr. is flesh incarnated from ink.  He nailed it.

Hmm looking back at all the posts, I didn't remember i saw so much movies and played so many games.

Good:
Hulk (2008) was much better than I expected and far better than the previous movie. So while I don't care much of Hulk, it was above average.

And Yes Quantum of Solace: Daniel Craig went all out with the stunts.
This movie was not as good as Casino Royale but very good none the less.
Good movie.

Soul Caliber 4- While I only borrowed this. It was the best Vs game i've played whole year. Tekken 5 meh...

Disappointing Stuff
John Rambo
"the boatman" while bloody and gory, it just did not live up to all the other Rambo movies.

Indiana Jones KOTCS
was a huge let down.

When I read the Resistance 2 Co-Op was removed, it lost a star in my books, haven't played it yet but that's a disappointment.

Edit: Soul Caliber IV.
No you cannot use my time machine, borrow H.G. Wells own or Bill and Tedd's...i've heard they had an excellent adventure

Worst Film: Quantum of Solace...Far too many continuity errors, the most glaring being the 3 piece suit worn at the end of Casino Royale changing to a 2 piece in a scene which is supposedly taking place moments after the end of Casino Royale.

Best Film: Dark Knight

Best Game: GTAIV and Fable2

Worst Game: Tiger Woods 09

Best Game: Gears of War 2 - don't let your girlfriend play it unless you have a wookiee fetish. Manliest game ever.

Best Film: Dark Knight - obv

How the hell could anybody like Soul Calibur IV??? The game is awful...

I have loved the series until now, but they've completely fucking broken it. It's too slow, they've tweaked and altered too many moves and  it's the most unbalanced fighter i've ever played. Namco haven't lost their touch completely because Tekken 5 owned, Dark Resurrection owned and Tekken 6 fucking owns, but Soul Calibur IV is as bad as Tekken 4 was. It's pretty sure, but  that doesn't help it in the slightest.

As for Iron Man...

It wasn't a good film. I didn't like the Spiderman films, i didn't like the Transformers movie and i didn't like the X-Men films. I love comics, but not movies based on comic books.

And Nitro's a dick Joe. Nobody will be sorry to see the back of that fuck.

I'm not a fan of the xmen or spiderman films or even hulk etc.   But I loved Iron Man.  Course none of it made any sense, with a so-called genius weapons designer that's too naive to know what they're used for.  And the flux capacitor from Back to the Future.

But it never took itself too seriously, remained cartoony and I dunno, maybe it was just the tech-geek in me.  The suit was just so shiny!

On the other hand - The Dark Knight kinda did take itself a bit seriously - and bits like
the supposed switch at the end was just silly.  As though Batman ran off initially saying he'd save the girl, then off camera had run back to tell everyone he was changing his mind to save the guy.
How else would the chief have known, heh.

Tbh I preferred Batman Begins.

As though Batman ran off initially saying one thing, then off camera had run back to tell everyone he was changing his mind. How else would the chief have known, heh.

The Joker knew Batman would try to save his girl.  It was the Joker who purposefully switched the addresses.  Batman thought he was heading for what's her face.  He also knew Batman would get there first, maybe it was closer.  He manipulated Batman and Harvey Dent.  His whole thing is that (order->predictability->weakness).  In fact throughout the entire movie the Joker was able manipulate everyone as they relied on established rules and boundaries, while he did not.

He even manipulated the people who thought they were in control, like the Chinese accountant or the mob boss that put a price on his head.

Hmm, will have to watch that bit again then.  It seems a bit too easy to just say, yea he knew he was going to do this.  Personally I would've thought Batman would want to save Harvey Dent - since he was bigging him up and feeling guilty about beating people up himself.  But when it came to it he just went after the poon.

I liked the Joker's character, but the plot 'twists' were kinda contrived imo.  Not saying I didn't love the film though.  Only film I went to see at the cinema all year tbh.  Others I got on DVD.

Tekken 4 was awful, so true but there is a lack of good Vs games and to me the only one that stood out was SC IV.
I gave up on after Tekken Tag and Tekken 3 nothing else was better than those Tekken Games.
I kinda grew partial to that fuck, but _Majic_ is back and he is alright.

But it wasn't like that.
Thats why arcade titles like Marvel Vs Capcom, Tekken Tag, Soul Edge, Street fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Samauri Showdown, were all successful.

I agree with Dan on this one the plot twist did ruin the movie somewhat, I was also enjoying it until then.  You haven't seen The Dark Knight?  Are you a masochist?  There are three luxuries in life that everyone should experience at least once.  Preferably much more than once.

1. Smoke some Chronic.
2. Get a nice piece of ass.
3. And you must watch The Dark Knight.

If you can manage them all in the same day, well that would be one fine fucking day.
