American election day. - Nov 04, 2008 18:38

It looks like Obama will win.  I wouldn't call it a sure thing though.

To be honest, I know zero about either man's policies for the US.  All I know is that Obama is a black christian guy with a white mum and a black dad and a muslim middle name - and that McCain looks and sounds very much like the current president who is an international front man for world war.

I only say this because I suspect many people around the world feel the same way, regardless of a probably very different reality that we dont get fed in the news.

Anyway, are you guys in the US allowed to say who you voted for yet?

Only from excerpts on TV, hearing Obama and McCain/Palin talk, mainly it seems McCain and Palin are often taking cheap digs at the opposition.  Not cool.  Maybe Obama does the same, we just dont hear it over here.

That the problem, isnt it? No one knows shit, except Obama's the black guy. McCain is nothing like Bush, in fact he's voted with democrats a lot. However, Obama is a socialist who attends a "Christian" Church that preaches an anti-white and ant-jew message.

Capitalism FTW, Ayn Rand Forever!

America speaks about scialism like it's a bad thing.  Americans are going bankrupt because of medical bills.  Drug compainies are making huge margins.  The working class is paying through the nose and the rich are getting super rich.  This should never happen, America needs some socialism.  McCain is like Bush, he voted 90% of the time along with Bush.

That being said I doubt Obama is the magic cure the country needs.  It doesn't matter who wins, neither will be able to fix the mess Bush left the country with.

After the disaster of the Bush party it would be an insult to vote for Republicans again.

What is voting along with Bush?  Bush isn't in the senate, he signs bills passed by the senate into laws or vetos them.  So is this voting for laws he didn't veto?  What is the percentage Obama voted with Bush?  Or any other senator....  See how stupid this is?

Depends how you look at it I guess. I probably should have been more specific. He thinks the world owes black Americans something because their ancestors were slaves. Then, if you want to go into more detail about his preacher/former preacher/whatever hes calling him these days(Reverend Jeremiah Wright) is a black liberalist, which basically he believes blacks are dominant. Wright also believes that God has to be black or his people wouldn't like him and the only way they will believe in God is if hes black. Sure Obama hasn't directly said the bit about being a black liberalist, but if he followed the man for 25 years, but then dropped him as soon as it was convenient for his political career it should tell you something.

Either way, it doesn't matter, because Obama is the president, whether we like it or not. There are 300,000 black voters who were unregistered in previous elections that are now registered just to vote Obama. Not to mention that Obama is the popular way to vote in young voters. There are many people in my area who say "I'm voting Obama because he is the man and he'll be teh best prezident evars!!!!!!1!!!", but know absolutely nothing about him other than he is black and repeats "Change" over and over. He'll win the election through the unthinking majority(young, minorities, people who think it makes them cooler to vote democrat)

There's a study that suggests recent Republican voters are more responsive to fear than democratic voters.  They actually polled many people and measured brain activity on seperate issues.  I'm starting to think this study has merit.  I'm watching CNN, and they have polls on what individuals consider to be the most important issues.  The results confirm this basic idea.

The most important thing, the only important issue is the economy.  Everything else is superficial.  The Republicans managed to double the national debt.  That's a big fuck up, when they should have been paying off the debt.  Do you realise how much interest you guys pay each year on interest payments alone?  It's a shame that Republicans don't stand for small government anymore.  That's what you need right now.

What exactly do you think Obama will do that is "pro black"?  He can't do fuck all, the whole thing is fucking ridiculous.

No, its not. More affirmative action is a bad thing, after all its reverse discrimination. Supporting crazy left wingers like Ayers (Weather Underground, Vietnam-era terror group that supported killing police officers) and Jerimiah Wright is wrong. A man, former head of a domestic terror group, and a man who preaches that god thinks its "ok to kill white people because its what God wants". Those are the kinds of friends that I want my President to have.

And no, socialism will not fix our country. Giving people on welfare more money and raising taxes on people with jobs will not stimulate economic growth and create more jobs.
I dont want to celebrate, I want to sell you hate.

Thankyou for supporting my previous point. Again, your argument is invalid. If you want to argue properly, you need to stop spouting fallacies of relevance. The premises may be true but they are irrelevant to the conclusion. Obama is not going to promote Jerimiah Wright to Secretary of Defense. None of his policies advocate extremism or terrorism. Obama is not going to pass laws that allow blacks to kill white people. What you mentioned has nothing to do with Obama's presidency. You seem to have trouble looking at this from an objective and rational standpoint. Setting up "straw man" arguments just shows everyone that you're misrepresenting and misunderstanding the facts.

As for affirmative action, I find it surprising you feel so threatened by giving aid to black people. You probably earn far more (and have more of a future going for you) than many other African Americans, yet you feel marginalised because they're getting aid? I really don't understand. Fact remains is that there are a ton of African Americans who are born into poverty and thus resort to crime. If giving them aid turns at least some away from a destructive existance, then it is well worth it.

But I don't actually think you'll listen to reason in this case. If you think responsible governing of free enterprise is socialism then you are indeed a lost cause.

What the fuck are you babbling about UnluckyOne? Im not threatened by anything. Perhaps you dont get what affirmative action is. It's not "aid" as you like to call it. There have been many cases where a more qualified people have been passed over for colleges and jobs because a certain quota of minorities had to be met.

Im for equal opportunity, 100% regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender. Affirmative action is against the true values of capitalism, which is the most qualifies and hardest working person gets ahead. Im against government handouts no matter what, for any reason. Affirmative action is not equality, and youre a dumbass for thinking it is.

As for the socialism thing, how is it not socialist for the gov't to decide insurance, including using my tax money to pay for abortions through that insurance? I am against abortion except in the most extreme circumstances (rape, death of the mother) yet Im supposed to like the plan that will give free healthcare to the people too lazy to work, and also provide free abortions at the expense of the tax payer? Thats a great fucking idea.

You all seem to think that socialism works, and it may in your countries. But you all seem to forget that we live in America. We have less guns per capita than Canada, and over 100 times the shooting fatality. We have more abortions than any other country, a number which will undoubtably jump when theyre free under gov't funded health insurance.

I have health insurance. I have 2 insurance plans actually. 1 throuh my fathers company until I finish college and 1 through the Army until my contract is up in 2013. Why should I pay taxes to pay for other peoples insurance?

To sum all this up: if you want something, get off your ass and go get it, dont wait on the gov't to hand it to you.

For your University comment - it's bullshit.  So they need more minorities in prestigious schools like Harvard, etc. fine, but what's wrong with going to the University of Texas?  Arizona State University? University of New York?  All well respected, all will give you a great career, it isn't your right to go to an Ivy leage school, we have plenty of public universities that accept anyone with good grades from high school or community college.  If you have a 3.5 GPA none of these schools will reject you, nor will they reject giving you loans.  Again it isn't your right to be accepted into Ivy Leage schools or to get grants.  You are pretty much guaranteed loans and acceptance into state universities, thats all you need.

Government is placing rules on insurance companies, not running it, how can you agree with insurance companies declining insurance for people with poor medical histories? How can you justify a company selling drugs for $10 in other countries and $100 here? It's a rip off.

They dont care if these companies compete against eachother or drive eachother out of business, or what not, that's capitalism.  They just are just putting in consumer protection.   Socialism is the bill george bush passed where we're basically buying out companies.

And finally welfare is given to people who are "lazy" only if they have children/disabilities, the child of a lazy man should not have to pay for his father's sins.  Nobody cares about the lazy man, it's about protecting the children.

The Liberals do not want to regulate health care, they want standard health care for every american funded by tax money, similar to what Canada has.

And welfare is strictly for the lazy. Welfare isnt given to children, Medicaid is. And if youre too poor to support a child you shouldnt have 1 in the first place. Maybe that could be a gov't initiative, free birth control. Thats something I'd get behind. Less children with failures as parents equals less failures in the long run.

In a perfect world...  You're too much of an idealist Dan.  Socialism isn't perfect, many people will abuse the system.  However, extreme capitalism  is worse.  Republicans have been such a disaster.  They're not even conservative, they've spent more money than the Democrates would have and gave it to the wrong people.  They let Americans starve so their buddies at wallstreet can get richer. They're evil and incompetent.  What was it, they doubled the national debt...LOL.  How can anyone trust these criminals after such a horrible 8 years?

I never said they were any better. What we need is a fresh start. Start by getting rid of the beuracrats and the beuracratic processes. The electoral college needs to be done away with, and the president should be elected by popular vote. Thats what fucked Gore over in 2000. We need completely new people in the government, preferably not rich people or people from rich families. Who knows what the working class needs more than the working class?

No they do not want free health care, research before you speak.  The category of people who get screwed the most by healthcare companies are the middle class, not the people on welfare you are attacking, they already don't pay for it, doesn't matter how cheap or expensive it is, they will never pay for it, get over it, this isn't anything new, thats the way it is and the way it will always be.  The point is to not screw over people who actually have to pay for it, just because they can.

I can technically afford $1,000 for a bottle of aspirin, I have the money in the bank right now, it doesn't mean I should be paying that when it costs a fraction of it to produce, they are preying on consumers.   It doesn't really matter if you have a company that pays for it either, you're still losing money, the money they pay the health companies is extra money they can be paying you directly.   And that leads into another problem, in which companies are refusing to hire people with medical conditions, and it's understandable, if you're hiring someone for $50k/yr and have to spend $30k/yr on them for healthcare it isn't worth it, just hire someone healthy.

And they do get welfare for their children, it's a common scam for women on welfare to plan pregnancies every 7 years or so to continue to live off the government, if they run out of children they run out of welfare, no one is denying that they're abusing the system, but there isn't a better solution, you don't deserve to live on the streets or in an orphanage just because your parents were fuck ups.

The bottom line is that we don't have a perfect system, but we're trying.  The answer lies somewhere between conservativism and liberalism.  People need to stop joining these "gangs", and realize that "Xtreme" sucks in sports games AND politics!

We need more than just the two major political parties in the U.S.  Maybe the Republican party will splinter off into divided factions and some other parties like the Greens and the Libertarians can make gains and bring more alternatives to the table.

I've answered "Jesus" in coursework before, claiming religious preference didn't allow me to give a more complete answer than Him.

Didn't get me anywhere, but I got an exam postponed for a day.

Edit:

I have my voiced disagreements with senator (I should get into the habit of saying President Elect) Obama, so I don't follow every single one of his speeches like some, however the things I find fascinating are the safeguards the Secret Service put in place to prevent harm from being done to people of high office. They built two ten-foot-tall walls of bullet-proof glass  to surround the Senator to prevent would-be assasins from taking potshots from the nearby skyscrapers at his acceptance speech.

I'd love to have a job like that.

I actually made a wager with my buddy, how long it would take before someone took the first shot at him. My buddy said that it would never happen. I said in the first 4 years of the presidency. I feel confident, that I'll win

There really aren't enough white supremacists to even make this a remote threat. The media has done an excellent job of blowing this way out of proportion.

People hang Bush-on-a-nooses out on their front lawns. People burn, behead and vilify his effigy wordwide. People openly discuss executing him for war crimes. Hell, even Al Quaeda likes him better than McCain.

Then look at Obama. I fail to see where a cohesive and intelligent plot to assassinate him will come from.

More than likely, if he does get shot, it will be from some moron who didn't have a plan whatsoever, rather than a guy who spent years devising a plan to kill him.

...I read somewhere(CNN.com I believe) that two white supremacists from Tennessee were already trying to come up with a plot to kill him, but were arrested before they could do anything. It also said they had a list of about 100 black Americans on a list.

Well Said.
