[Rumor Mill] The Xbox Revision Thread - Jul 09, 2008 04:51
The thread for anything and everything concerning the rumored 360 slim, and the third Xbox.

My first rumor hails from the stem of all great rumors/leaks/what-have-you, NeoGAF.

Unquoted for easier reading:

Today I ran across some information.
However I do live in an area with a good deal of employees/contractors from a rather large corporation and have worked with some of them in my past.

So lets start off with some of the info I was given starting with the 360 in general.
From what I was told during a conversation;
Microsoft seems to be slimming the system down to a ' Wii-like' size. (A Fat overweight Wii )
This model should have the CPU+GPU Combo Dye with the E-DRAM off to the side.
Thats all the information I have on that.

Now I' m not 100% sure on this so do not get hyped up, but speculated release is Late Winter 2008ish?
Side note, ATI/AMD has been working on a CPU/GPU Combo dye for sometime. LINK

Clairifying this section... guess I confused some people. Its not the Xbox 360, its the Next Gen system.
As for the Xbox,
The Next Generation Xbox after the Xbox 360... thats expected to have a Blu-Ray Drive?, 1TB HDD, and a Quad-Core CPU.
Speculative Date is considered 2010~.
(Considering its still early these are most likely to change.)
They also mentioned the spec sheet for the console was leaked. ?

Lastly, the handheld xbox-like device. As far as I know its considered a " Pie-in-the-sky" ."

1TB HDD

Thats not exactly unbelievable, if they opt for a huge emphasis on downloading HD-Games and Movies.

One assumes that a slim360 would be cheaper than the current one, and how would the current hard drives fit if at all. Still it seems interesting. Would Japan go for a more micro version???

Late 2008 seems a good time to do it, in time for the xmas rush, and if it competes favourably with the wii on price it may tempt some people if that latter is still hard to come by.

For the next xbox, I would have thought that quad core would be passe by then, oct cores anyone? Late 2010 seems logical, its five years since the 360 and a launch november time is always a good idea.

Oh and pie > cake.

The hell it is.

Microsoft will be rigorously testing their hardware for a next generation Red-ring fiasco, and if they find one, they' ll push back the release date rather than enter into a second PR debacle. Xbox 3 in 2010 is the logical guess, but my gut instinct says 2011.

lol, there is no way it will be a mere quad-core.

A 2010 release date for the next xbox sounds to soon. I really think that they should release a new console like 7 to 10 years after the last console been on the market.

Five years is plenty for a console' s primary lifespan... then it hopefully trails off gradually like the Playstations have. The first Xbox ended too abruptly.
