Best:

Barbecue. Seriously, ribs are a religion down here.
Memphis in May Barbecue festival coming soon, woohooo!!

Worst:

Roadway design in the downtown area. It' s like no one thought people would actually drive on these streets. It' s just retarded. When I' m going downtown, I park at a friend' s house and catch the bus.

There' s kickass NAMCO Station just up the road that always gets the newest machines in. The place is fuc.king mecca as far as i' m concerned.

The BBC are moving here... slowly... over the next 3 years, creating 10,000 jobs. Property prices are only going to go up.

I' m pretty central and have some of the cities best bars, restaurants and shops within short walking distances. The MEN Arena is a major venue for bands touring the UK and for sporting events.

Manchester and Salford uni' s both have serious labs that i frequent. A couple of the local colleges have taken interest in games development courses for school leavers (16 - 19 yrs) which is something i' ve been involved in for the past year or so. The 3 main colleges in Salford are merging on Aug 1st to create a super college which will be offering more diverse areas of study. There' s a lot of money been thrown about by the government for things like mobile learning (equipping students with PDA' s), software development etc... One of my friends recently started work with a team at the University of Manchester who have recieved a grant for Human Genomes research. Pretty cool shit.

Worst

The fuc.k awful weather. Summer lasts about 4 or 5 days and we don' t get snow during winter. It' s just windy as fuc.k and it pisses down all the time.

The fuc.king Jews and immigrants. Dirty horrible fuc.king gypos. Skanky Polish and Romanian bitches... get the fuc.k off my island!

EDIT: Oh yeah, ...the fuc.king cops. They hate me

Best: Not Crowded, a lot of land, my town has pretty much has just a lot of food places and a Walmart, Its not far from bigger cities that have everything else we might need.

Worst: Weather is really unpredictable. One day it could be 90 degrees, the next it could be 15 with snow. It was pretty much in the 60s from November to February, but then all of a sudden it was around 30 until recently.

Worst: Pretty full of ned scumbags. Haven' t had much bother in the 4 years we' ve been here though.

The Good - Nice and quiet, by the sea, about the best weather you' ll get in the UK, short distance from France for booze cruises. Great schools (including 11+ grammars) Good food (especially fish) and beer (Shepherd Neame). Shops not your usual chains

The bad - miles and miles away from anywhere with a pulse, closer to Belgium than London. Shopping iffy, cinemas either pokey local 1-screen affairs or horrendously overpriced multiplexes.

Worst: High cost of living, weather, Silent bitching.

Best: If you' re willing to head north, or to the east coast (of Michigan), the camping is fantastic. Diverse population.

Worst: High crime and unemployment, worst economy in the country. We' re now Nazi headquarters, and everyone here is dangerously unfit.

Yeah, there' s a whole airport hanger of bands in that style I love - Godspeed, And you will know us by the trail of dead..., Sigur Ros, Mogwai, and the more metal bands such as Isis, Jesu, Neurosis, Ulva, Swans and Red Sparrowes. I really recommend the Red Sparrowes debut album " At the Soundless Dawn" , a collab between Isis and Neurosis members. It' s all very epic, atmospheric instrumental stuff. They are currently touring too. I just finished a review of an Italian band called Tomydeepestego' s album tonight. It' s very similar, but deliberately more subdued. I prefer bands like Mogwai who really fuzz out and end up as a wall of sound.

Mogwai are actually from Bellshill, which is about 3 miles from my home town of Hamilton. Great band.

You really shouldn' t start me on music man, I would never shut up!

To a point. There has to be a dynamic contrast between that crashing wall of sound, and something a little melodic, if not quieter or softer as far as music that I' ll listen to actively. Clubbing and concert music on the other hand... balls to the walls!

You really shouldn' t start me on music man, I would never shut up!

Likewise. Orchestral rock is good stuff, though we' ve got some differing taste in style as far as everything else goes. Odd though, I' m not much into throat, but I' ve been listening to I Love You Even Though You' re a Zombie Now by Johnny Truant. I' m not a big fan of the style, but I can' t get the song out of my head.
