Quad Core Extreme owns all. Other than that it depends what you' re suing it for. Core 2 Extreme is probably the best out there for gaming right now (again, aside from the Quad Core Extreme). The base Quad Core (what I have) is not quite as efficient with games (since most aren' t programmed for it) though still runs them great. Where is really shines is in things like rendering stuff in 3ds Max and such. Scenes that took forever to render on the computers I had back in college which had Core 2 Duos take like 30 seconds on mine.

Core 2 Duo E8400 is probably the best value for money right now, ...but yeah, it depends what you' re using your computer for.

great choice. Now overclock that mother fucker. 4Ghz is easy with an after market cooler.
