Importing a Japanese PlayStation 2... - Mar 06, 2008 16:31
Hello everyone,

Hopefully someone can help me out with this as it' s quite a simple issue but I can' t find an answer anywhere...

Anyway, I' m looking to import a Japanese PS2 into the UK, almost soley for the recent NiGHTS release but I' m a little unsure about powering a Japanese console.

I understand the latest PS2' s (SCPH-90000) have an in-built power unit so connecting one over here would probably just require a stepdown converter, right?

However, the model before the latest range (SCPH-79000) has an external power unit so I was wondering whether I could just replace this with a UK external power unit and be on my way, without blowing anything up?

Any advice on importing and hooking up a Japanese PS2 would be awesome!

Thanking you all...

Ian

A SCPH-90000 and a step down convertor should be fine.

Renchi do region free machines... which is better than being stuck with NTSC-J.

Thank you Majik.

I came across Renchi last night and noticed the whole region free thing. Does this mean the consoles have been modded in some way or chipped? That kinda puts me off and I' m mainly getting this console for one game so it' s not that important to me if it' s region free.

However, a nice little bonus none-the-less.

In that case, i' d probably buy from Play-Asia as their NTSC-J PS2' s - while region locked to Japanese games, also come with the correct powerpack and a UK plug (so no step down convertor is needed).

Thanks again Majik.

If only they had them in stock... That would be ideal.

I' ll keep an eye for a couple of days, if not I think I' ll go for the SCPH-90000 from Play-Asia. Previously I had been looking at eBay as I didn' t think Japanese import companies were shipping Sony consoles but it looks like Play-Asia are with their PS2' s.

Now, do I want black or white...?

Gotta go for the white m8. Never been a fan of the PS2 in black.
