360 failure rate at 16.4% - Feb 14, 2008 23:26
According to these guys they reckon the failure rate for the 360 is 16.4%

One thing it doesn' t mention is if these are launch units or recent machines. I am going to assume it is launch and pre elite units.

16-20% probably is true.
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

It was an itty-bitty sample size, and it wasn' t date specific.

That' s like saying that all Ford cars have an X failure rate. Different models, different guts, different performance, different failure rate.

Wow. I thought it was closer to 90-100%. Such a shitasticly-designed console.

This is what happens when you let artists design electronics.

microsoft' s business plan for the 360 was to hit the streets as far as possible ahead of sony to build up user base, as they knew a concurrent release with the ps3 would porbably have seen them get slaughtered over sales. To do this they obviously had to forget some qc and testing steps which probably would have corrected this. That was their risk and they have to live with it.

They didn' t forget, so much as simply ignore them. They only started producing 360s 69 days before launch, so on top of having no reserve units, they were built like absolute crap, and the subsequent units made from the first model were absolute crap.
