My ISP' s Becoming Big-Brother - Jan 10, 2008 07:22
AT&T, My ISP, is considering filtering content on a network level to prevent piracy.

Scary stuff. It' s like having armed guards stationed in front of parts of the library that teach you how to make explosions, for fear that someone' ll get blown up.

I know sympatico has been reducing bandwidth to PVP traffic for a while now. This kind of thing really pisses me off.

Solution: Drop AT&T. Get someone else. Let them know why you' re dropping them while you' re at it.

I' m a minor, I don' t pay for my internet, and consequently have no control over what service I use.

I' ve written them expressing my irritation, but so long as they' re still getting my house' s payment, of course nothing will be done.

Do they really? This really gets me ticked off, but I' m not going to really lose it until they start nabbing people, or begin to assist in getting people.

when you are seeding torrents, some places, sometimes, comcast sends signals to people you are seeding to that says you aren' t seeding anymore.
Also, I' m not sure if they do this some places or not yet, but they give short connections priority over sustained connections. So say you' re playing a game on the same server for a long time, your pings will suffer if other people are looking at a bunch of web sites.
