Bioshock gets wider - Dec 05, 2007 04:47
Not sure why they didn' t just make it correct in the first place, but here you go:

Back when it was first revealed that BioShock developers had made some very odd widescreen choices, cropping the standard 4::3 mode instead of starting with widescreen and cropping to achieve standard, many people called ' no big deal' on the situation. Now that the Xbox 360 patch has dropped adding true widescreen, Videogamer.com has posted comparison shots of old widescreen versus new, and the difference is amazing. I' d daresay owners of the game might want to play through it again to get the full experience of BioShock in really-real widescreen. Hit the link for more comparison shots.

Wow. That really is annoying that they didn' t make it like that in the first place. I already loved my first play through as it is, but I can only imagine how much more cinematic it would have felt with that viewing area.

Probably because its release date would have had to have been pushed back to this update' s date.

No, moron. There were user-made patches for this on the PC a day after it came out, it' s a simple fix.

Bioshock' s environments won' t take advantage of the wider aspect anyway. Everything is narrow and enclosed, there aren' t any open spaces. That' s probably why they made the decision to truncate the perspective in the first place. Better presentation.

Now they' ve " fixed" it. Whoopee, we can see more wall space.

Good move though. Give the moron masses what they want.

Right, because people with widescreens are so unreasonable to want to game to fit their screen.

That' s a big difference judging from that picture. I personally don' t think that it' s moronic. The perspective felt a bit too claustrophobic in an annoying way for me actually. I didn' t even know about the whole deal with their choices mentioned above. So I wouldn' t mind having a wider view. Even it just means a bit less turning around to study the environment.

Clearly the screenshots provided show at least two different framing areas that had previously been cropped off. It' s easy to infer that the update involved more than just a display fix, it involved the review and approval of the art director. If you knew anything about games, animation, film, video, graphic design -- anything other than the soul-corroding corporate cog-work you do in the godforsaken grey little cubicle where you' ve squandered your youth kowtowing to superiors who bat your shriveled balls around like some kind of sad, broken cat toy -- then you' d know that. Like I said before, we keep you around for amusement during your non-medicated freakouts, not actual analysis of information about games or the industry that creates them. Might play Bioshock again, after I have finished being a renegade and a cold
heartless b@st@rd.

New plasmids? Cool.

Didn' t notice it wasn' t widescreen either, tbh didn' t really care. It' s the same thing
as Halo 3 not having 720p native.

I was going to play through this again anyway.

Yeah I just felt like posting something completely worthless.

I' m 24, work in an office, and I just got out of college. Wrong again, geek.

And no shit you' re going to see more it' s 16:9 now instead of cropped 4:3, dumbass.

Re-read my last post and try again. The expanded area that was previously cropped is different in different scenes -- that' s the art director' s job to choose camera angles.

Exactly, you need to get out of there and make something of yourself. Become an individual. If you' re this miserable at age 24, the writing is on the wall. You' ll thank me for slapping you around like this later on when you' ve earned yourself a unique identity. Live a little! See the world! The office will still be there when you' re in your 30s and 40s if you can' t make anything more interesting happen in your 20s. Just don' t try to become a writer. I' m like a Lamborghini doing donuts around your used Ford Escort when it comes to writing on this forum.

Um I' ve only been working at my job a little over a year. And I live fine, I' m 24 and have a brand new house, luxury car, you live in your mother' s basement and drive a Civic.

And I beat bioshock at 16:9 on PC when it came out, it' s a simple fix, get over it.

According to that " screen-shot" it doesn' t look they changed the aspect ratio much if any, just upped the field of view.
