Favourite game cutscene. - Feb 11, 2006 01:39
There I was, sat in my bedroom, playing Final Fantasy VII when I watched the summoning of Weapon and thought to myself, " Man I love cutscenes!" So it got me wondering " what are other people' s favourite(pardon my british spelling) cutscenes?"

The ones that stand out for me are Shinra' s fight against Weapon in FFVII and the scene with the small house being surrounded Ganados(I think they were called) in Resi 4.

So what are some of your personal faves?

Arthas Betrayal in Warcraft 3, is one of the most dramatic cut scenes i have ever seen. But in general all the cutscenes for Warcraft 3 are great. I remember the first time i saw the one with the Orc and the Guard figthing, and the fireballs began falling from the sky, Goosebumps i tell you, GOOSEBUMPS

Now i want to play the game again, damn it!

Does an ending count as a cutscene? If so it would have to be the end to FFVIII for me. It was just so long, and beautifully done. And that little handicam vid at the end was quality.

Some of the anime cutscences in Zone of the Enders 2 as well as Gungrave were quite cool.

Also Tenchu: Stealth Assassins had some hilariously cool cutscenes, which have had me and my friend quoting lines from ever since! Onikage was the coolest, hehe.

shooting off on a completely different tangent... the into / level intro' s to saturn bomberman.. animated so well, hudson soft - I bow before your genius.

Shame no bomberman title has lived up to it since then.. I still play ten player widescreen from time to time now.. aaah 32bit bliss... I' ll have a rake around... I remember when you KNEW cutscenes were gonna be fab and they rocked!

I remember Tenchu, that game rocked!

I dont agree at all,but nvm ever heard of festis or me quezcatol in wc3?
festis was ranked nr 1-2 in europe in 2vs2 and with me 56,i also beated some of europes best and had top replays at replayers.com
And i also played with madfrog world best wc3 gamer.

Yes i like to brag, but i was so outstanding in wc3 i have the right to do so.

And i think the cut scene when aeris dies is the best one ever, cause non expect what was happening, nor that a characteer in a rpg this strong would actually die this horrible right before the main charcters eyes.

I loved that game!

In fact, MGS and RE are my 2 favourite games, ...i like a good story!

I didn' t mention MGS though because although there are some lengthy cutscenes in it, they' re dwarfed by those in 2 and 3!

4 will have even longer cutscenes that look nicer than ever so i' m especially looking forward to that, but they need to be completely skipable with 1 push of a button (for replayng the game or level).

hey we are moving on to narrative here rather than cutscene! thats not fair! A cut scene can be good for whatever reason, perhaps a best storyline thread should accompany this one, so we dont all get distracted! But I guess they are both interlinked!

yeah we could go on and on , god of wars are excellent , most wanted as well , it had the same technique as sin city ...

i think changing this thread to a narrower topic will be better , for exemple the best endings ...

i' ll pick this one among other excellent ending , the one that striked me recently Shadow of the Colossus, weird i don' t hear a lot about this game in that forum...

well yeah obviously, but If we were talking narrative rather than enjoyment of a cutscene I' m hardly gonna vote bomberman to be my fave lol

I agree Abasoufiane we could easily list 5 or ten memorable bits of cg currently!

It' s exciting to see there is a place for cut scenes still too, theres always a vocal number of people frustrated at the interuption in gameplay, but if it adds to it all the better.

CGI has become lame though. With games like Gears of War and MGS4 on the horizon, CGI is losing its impact!

Dudeness!!

I love just about every cutscene in Ys Book 1 and 2 for the TurboGrafx-16. It is one of the few games where they actually got professionals to do the voiceovers instead of the janitors. I love the cutscene just before you fight the last boss: " I am the epitome of terror and destruction. I shall crush... and consume you." Voiced by Alan Oppenheimer (who also did the narration). Even Bumblebee was in the game. The cutscenes in Ys III were pretty good and the ones in Ys IV (PC Engine version, NOT SNES) were awesome as well. Snatcher on the Sega CD definitely had its moments, though the game was basically one giant, playable cut scene.

For intros I really like Soul Blade/Edge on the Playstation. I can still watch that over and over again to this day. And because of that cut scene I am still wondering when I am going to get to play as Cervantes with the skull-face. That would rock. The system-rendered intro to Soul Calibur was really good as well. Namco does some really good CG.

While maybe not considered to be a cutscene and is more of a cinematic intro, my favorite still remains the intro of the original Panzer Dragoon for the Saturn..

Other cool CG stuff was the opening movie sequence in Onimusha 3 where you' re shown people in Paris, France getting slaughtered by the invading demons.

Ah yes, the opening for Panzer Dragoon. The music made that cut scene, especially where he' s flying off on his new Disneyland adventure and he looks below and sees his loser friends, deciding that they are not worth his time any more. They should re-render that opening in HDTV quality with much better graphics but use the same scenes with the same angles and the same direction and of course, the same music, only without the fuzz. It would make a great trailer for a Panzer Dragoon movie directed by Uwe Boll.

Another great intro: Space Harrier II! That part where he' s standing there and it says Fantasy Zone is under attack again!!! OMG! Oh wait. That' s the entire thing.

Ninja Gaiden (every movie in it)
Shenmue - realtime intro
Full Throttle (any)
Halo 2 (talking to the PARASITE)
Parasite EVE
Tekken 3 intro

Sonic Adventures DC intro

Shit so many great movies in games :)

The cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes are probably my favourite cutscenes. My overall favourite would have to be ninja wreaking havoc on the soldiers in the corridor.

Originally in MGS on the Playstation an Gangsta already put that one in.

I didn' y like Twin Snakes though (and i love the MGS series' ). Gamecube should have gotten it' s very own game rather than some half-breed.

yeah twin snakes was way too ugly for it' s time - that' s why MGS for PSX will be remembered as the one and only MGS 1

Seriously they did a lame job trying to improve on the original.

I personally loved twin snakes, but thats probably because i didnt play the original one for playstation, as i didnt have a playstation.

I found it more fun than MGS2 for xbox, which i never got around to complete.

^5 Gangsta

The original on the Playstation was absolutely engrossing. I got the demo before the game came out and was utterly blown away with the style, the control, ...everything.

It was a big game too and the boss figts were brilliant, especially the Gray Fox battle with the chaff grenades and thermal vision.

I love the way Snake says Metal GEAR!

If anyone ever decides to make a movie of it, i will kill the director and make sure it never gets released! It' s a work of art (ha, tell that to Kojima) already!

Does this include endings/beginings?

Has to be the end of Shenmue 1 and the begining of shenmue 2..

Boarding the boat to Hong kong, then when the boat arives, and that bird fly' s over some hills....

" He shall appear from a far Eastern land across the sea. A young man who has yet to know his potential. This potential is a power that can either destroy him, or realize his will. His courage shall determine his fate. The path he must traverse, fraught with adversity, I await whilst praying. For this destiny predetermined since ancient times... A pitch, black night unfolds with the morning star as its only light. And thus the saga, begins..."

That touches me man!..
