Blaming video games is simply a tool that society uses to make sure that their way of living remains unscrutinized.

Agreed.

It' s an easy issue to tackle for people who want to gain political credibility as moralists. Much easier, apparently, then making sure that people can get an education and health care.

Actually, good health care and education go a long way in stopping violence, look at Canada. So it might be the same issue.

But the solution clearly has nothing to do with video games.
Also, Canada had a school shooting not too long ago.

But overall the decline of their society hasn' t been as fast as ours.

Blaming video games keeps the rock-stars, and the people in the movie industry safe to make gory smutty entertainment for all. Videogames are taking one for the team!

I blame Jack Thompson. The US has higher crime rates because it has more of Jack.

Exactly. Video games are the latest in a long line of scapegoats to take the blame for the ills of society. Politicians love to deflect blame away from themselves and it won' t change until something else comes along which suits their agenda better.

That said, the fact that the industry produces so many games that are aimed at a tiny demographic who seem to be obsessed with mass-slaughter doesn' t exactly help the cause.
